im sorry, but its ridiculous that here we are well into the release of this game and we still don't have a checkbox to enable replays. Since replays are part of the game, adding a script that runs when checked seems to be a no-brainer and very easy to do.  Instead we must:

_____________

  1. Open for editing the preferences.xml file.
  2. Scroll it till the last lines:

      </scriptsPreferences>
    </root>

  3. Paste two new lines before </scriptsPreferences> line

    <isReplayEnabled> true </isReplayEnabled>

    This is how you should see the result:

       <isReplayEnabled> true </isReplayEnabled>
    </scriptsPreferences>
    </root>

  4. Save file & launch the game client.

_______________

Can someone at WG ask one of the interns to spend 15 min. attaching a script that does above to a check box (true/false)...?

The script you want already exists; it is available for DL from WG, or as part of a number of modpacks.  I prefer editing the xml, because easy.

What would really be nice is a way to play back replays regardless of the client version it was created with.

I also take issue with Wargaming's claim that this game is in 'release' status.  It is still very much Beta level software, both according to the versioning scheme, and the amount of changes per patch that are in no way indicative of stable, release quality software.

Cheers!

Technically it is not even a replay but in reality they really do have bigger fish to fry.  Once enabled it is not disabled again as the preference files are no longer wiped out after patches.  Just keep a backup file in case you have to reinstall and then you can copy paste it back in or use the things ZoomieG suggested.

I tired that script but it didn't work for me for some reason.

Try deleting or renaming the preferences.xml.bak file that gets created by the script. It worked for me when I did that.

I am hesitant to download mods but I do make a few adjustments on my own now and then. I've enabled replays because critically reviewing one's own gameplay is a great way to become better at the game. I also removed the ARP and Segal voices, because they annoyed me. Each action takes about 15 seconds and can easily be performed by anyone who knows how to edit a word-processing document or delete a file. Finally, I've written a couple of simple batch files to delete screenshots and replays en masse after I've transferred the ones I want to save.
