The Sinksalot Fleet recommends the Tirpitz fully but only if you're brave enough to take the Zombie Brawler build and get within torp range of your enemies.

Would you be ineterested in putting a little bit of comparison to Bismarck? Its now been heard that a lot of competitive players like Bismarck more:

For the hydro, how its used, offensively and defensively.

And for the AA.

Does it also have been torpedo protection?

Also how bad is the AA when typically using the secondary build, BFT and AFT? Compared to other BBs?

Offensively: when charging smoke screens, pop hydro to spot torpedoes early and chase out the destroyer.

Defensively: when you suspect torpedoes might be incoming, pop hydro to give yourself early warning.

Bismarck has much superior AA. It breaks down as follows:

Tirpitz:

  • 2km: 84 dps
  • 3.5km: 21 dps
  • 4.5km: 134 dps

Bismarck:

  • 2km: 140 dps
  • 3.5km: 103 dps
  • 4.5km: 133 dps

Base ratings, without skills, flags and modules.

Nope, torpedo defense is the same between the two.

Tirpitz has the worst T8 BB AA. Bismarck's is at least workable, Tirpitz' AA is mostly just celebratory fireworks that sometimes shoots down a plane after it's already dropped its ordnance.

I love my 'Pitz but with the arrival of Enterprise and GZ I've pretty much retired her from Random battle use. Her AA is too weak to discourage CV drivers from swarming all over her. Plus her effectiveness against Tier 10 BBs is iffy. Alabama has taken her place as my Tier 8 BB.

I saw this, and my first thought was;

Holy crap, what a massive necro!

Then I looked closer... Anyways, +1 for another great (re-)review!

Like LwM said, if you really want to have fun, queue up in a coop battle and just charge in. Don't worry about leaving your teammates behind, you don't really need them. Get yourself in torpedo range and just rack up the damage. Seriously, sailing a Tirpitz in coop is about the most fun you can have with your pants on.

Great review as always LWM!

Now if only they would fix her bloody in-game visual model. Tirpitz has the most historically inaccurate premium battleship model in the game (barring Arizona who needed some extra AA for balance reasons). Because WG has said that they try to model premium ships as accurately as possible, this is not OK. If she were a line ship it would be a different story. :Smile_sceptic:

Without a doubt, one of the best premiums out there. Still run her as she prints credits reliably.

Never mind that Big E, GZ, and UK BBs tend to make life more difficult--the CV issue is a simple matter of staying with the team for mutual AA, and UK BBs are only a threat if you get their attention.

My second-favorite boat. :D Thank you for the review, Mouse!:Smile_honoring:

(My very favorite is my dear Ginny, and Tirpitz is closely followed by the Mighty Mo.)

Provided a small edit to add the "versus Bismarck" section for those curious to exactly how the two sister ships compete.  Overall, Tirpitz does not replace Bismarck.  The two sister ships working together (with an Admiral Hipper-class for AA support) makes for a good Deutsch Division.

Reading about the main guns just reminded me. Technically, if you use the US definition for gun length as a function of caliber, it should be L/48, because that's the distance from the muzzle to the beach face. The L/52 definition comes from the Germans defining gun length from muzzle to the end of the breach.

The more you know.

Good review as always LWM.

I love this ship, Tirpitz is my most played ship. Also was the first premium that i bought.

What i love in this ship is how enemy player panic when they see a Tirpitz moving towards them. The combination of secundaries and torps scare most players and make them panic and show the broadside just to get away from you.

I've had the Bismarck for awhile, and if high tier meta didn't make me sad, I'd take her out more...but that crazy Halloween mission has me wanting a Tirpitz just to torp things...

For Captain skills, Why take Priority Target over Preventive Maintenance for either build?

Because PT gives you a lot of information.
