Thank WG for recent missions and Halloween Event.  I have really enjoyed them.  I especially enjoy the chance to get new, unique camo's.  So Yes I will be buying more pumpkins !  More of this stuff ! More Unique Camo's and Ships.  Cannot wait to buy the Vampire too as I have been on that ship.

Keep up good work.

i enjoy the event, though i do feel a bit put off by us only having a single chance to earn 5 chests the entire event... would be nice if the event reset each day or something along those lines so that we arent forced to buy the pumpkins to get any, especially since they are a completely random drop.....

Sadly I do not share your sentiment OP, I can't get a team to a 5 star win in the event to save a candy boat.

Event is too hard for a bunch of random captain to even dream of completing. Not to mention you only get 5 pumpkins for the whole event.
As it stands now if I can get that 5th pumpkin I won't be playing this bad joke of an event any more.

WG decided to Trick-or-Treat its players and all I'm getting is tricked.

@RedSeaBear I ran it with 6 clan members in a div and a random, got 5 stars but it was close and it was hectic. Getting with a total random team... that would be lucky.

@Kapitan_Wuff I've lost count of how many attempts I've made at this operation, best a group of randoms could do was 4 stars.

I even ran it with a full Div of good players and we only managed 4 stars. This evening I even tried to talk to the randoms to get them to focus targets to no effect.

I'm really frustrated by this and I hope that tomorrow, since clan battles is done for the week, I can get on a good div team and get that last pumpkin. And once I get that **** 5th pumpkin I'll happily go back to working on my Yamamoto campaign.

Feel free to snap me up, I just helped a 7-man division get 5 stars via maining CV for the event.

You have to run with a team and memorize spawns, what I recommend is min 1 dd, 1 bb, and 1 CV.  DD goes around, makes a pass on portal, then goes to the spawn point behind the 1st tower.  He torps all of the enemies that spawn there.  BB goes and rams Rasputin and Gorgon w/ invulnerability.  CV drops heals when needed.

Really it's the CV that makes or breaks the team.

I've gotten one, two and three stars. Still waiting for a good team to get more. Oh, BTW, I found out that if you entered the redeem code from the decryption game, you get a Halloween camo every time you win and survive a scenario.

I'm not the best CV player but at least I can figure out when to use the eclipse consumable and keep track of when the team needs healing. This is why I've been playing the CV. In the four games I've lost it's been a useless CV that cost us the game each time.

Unlike other scenarios, having a CV in this one is so imperative that apparently each team must have one. At least I've never been in a match yet without one. This doesn't seem to be a problem as one will oftentimes see 30 CVs queued up. Of course, this makes the wait if you are playing a CV somewhat long at times.

Finally, I had a mostly excellent random team and we easily got 4 stars. The only thing we failed to do was get the Great Gorgon. I survived, so I got another Halloween camo. I even came in top on the team.  I had a pretty scary moment, however, as when I went over to intercept the bunch of ships that spawn next to the first tower I misjudged so they spawned all around me. I furiously hit "T",  did the old WASD wiggle waggle and got out of there with about 100 hitpoints left. Apparently our CV had forgotten that he had a heal consumable because I never healed and had to wait until my rapid-fire/heal ability came off of cooldown to rejoin the fray.

I did have a neat thing happen. There were two Horde ships close to each other and, after I'd gotten both low on health, I sank them with a single salvo. I got an x2 ship kill ribbon for this but, alas, scenarios don't award you double strikes.

I only wish I had the 10 million credits needed to fully upgrade all of the ships, I'm out of cash and the only one I've been able to upgrade is the cruiser. Oh, and my 4-star pumpkin gave me 15 Halloween camos. Not the best pumpkin I've opened but they are nice camos all the same. This event and last week's have really set me up nicely for Halloween camos, I've now got 90 of them in my inventory.

I think this one is easier to complete at all then the first one, but harder to 5 star. Which is fine imo.

Needs a good team to pull of 5 stars. Some general pointers:

First tower is almost (If at all) not saveable. Dont really waste efford on it. An enemy division will literaly spawn right next to it outside of the filth (they also dont count for the 30 ships in filth opjective afaik). It helps greatly at this point to have every ships dead that spawned in the filth before this team spawns (I think it was 18 ships on the counter). Let them have the tower fast, so the chances are much better rasputin then spawns OUTSIDE of the filth making it 20 times easier to kill him. Either have a BB right there to insta kill ram him (with shield and ram flags obviously) or throw everything the team has on rasputin (and its 2-3 escorts as they have AA and rasputin really doesnt). Stack fires until he cant put em out then stack more and floodings with the CV. If you had 18 kills before the 1st tower event you SHOULD normaly have enough time to get him down before the next wave goes for tower 2. Also with tower 1 dead earlier you have more time to get the 30 kills (Its actualy tricky to get that if you hold tower 1 too long...)

At this point beat everything down that comes near tower 2. Especially a few vargs like to sneak further southeast. Have your bbs tank in front of the tower and on its flanks. If they farmed enough damage to expand their heal aura proper (100k each should do) they can all heal each other (and for having more inside the aura also healing more...) for insane unkillability. At this point CV needs to kill enemy BBs fast and a cruiser should handle the few remaining upfront DDs/CLs (put on inversion charge for insane DPM even if you dont have to heal. You can kill a Scarab within 5 seconds or so with AP since they LOVE to show broadside...).

The biggest issue for 5 stars is the great Gorgon. CV has insane ammo count on the fighters so unless AA gets them he can strafe forever. (I think fully upgraded you have almost 3.5 times the ammo of normal Lexington fighters who can already strafe for days...). If you kept your dpm up (aka all ships alive) you should be around 4-5 mins remaining now and at about 22-25 or so filth ship kills. At that point 2 ships should be going right for the gorgon (either a BB and a CL or 2 CLs or so but remember you need at least a BB tanking for tower 2 and a CL for anti cruiser/DD work there). Take out all CLs/DDs on your way in when you get broadsides on them. DONT bother CVing the enemy CV. Its AA is INSANE! At this point you need your cruisers to rotate radar to see all enemies in filth (2 cruisers can have radar on all the time with jack of all trades/premium radar/flag). Stack those fires on the gorgon and then volley away. Inversion charges just for dpm at this point. It has 250k hp, heals at insane rates (inside the filth, but you wont get it outside before losing tower 2... and thus 5 stars). Then try to ram it with the bb if its shut down (during the last 4 mins carrier should spam eclipse all the time and heal on demand, hopefully with 200k damage done so it does at least some heal) and or stack flooding on top of 4 fires on it. Dont bother going for citadels. I think it doesnt even have one or its insanely armored... without floodings it takes quite a while to punch that sucker down. Just for exsample our BB missed the ram and I didnt got close enough for cruiser torps... took us about 800k damage to kill it with fires and gunfire since it healed so fast.

The rest of the team should be able to punch down the remaining 4-5 ships and save tower 2 then. They need to focus on that and hope the other 2 get the gorgon (aside from one CL spamming radar).

Its not easy and you might need a bit luck on the exact spawn position of rasputin (sometimes it spawns on the filth side of tower 1 sometimes the sides, sometimes behind). But its doable with a solid team. Most of us are only solid players, not unicum or so. What you really need is a plan and proper coms and coordination. And the right builds and ships that is. I think DDs are almost (if at all) not worth it.Everyone needs superintendant and jack of all trades (and the consumeable reload flag). Also have secondary buffs on the BBs and maybe even the main gun range module. Concealment is useless (aside from the dd). Go for 2 rudder modules on the CL to make it less of a brick and ofc IFHE. And then everything that increases DPM. That includes planing your "kite" move patterns to not waste much time with the guns not aligned or in range of enemies.

Hope that helps :)

Yeah pretty much this. It is a fun event if you get a vaguely intelligent team - unfortunately the average WoWs player doesn't even qualify as "vaguely intelligent" much less finding a team of them together without the aid of a full division

I'm just trying to find a few that don't kite the whole match.  When three of the seven ships are beyond the third tower...

You've had a CV in every match because there are almost always 30 CV's in the queue. I've run it a couple times now without a carrier, so there's no requirement from WG.

That said, there should be, and there should also be a cap of 1 on destroyers. Even that might be excessive. Only a truly superior player can play a DD in the Sunray operation and be anything more than a wasted slot.

-

I've never said this about any other operation, but the Sunray operation really needed a skill requirement before implementation. The day it came out, it was a blast- I routinely got matched with generally good teams and we were getting 3-4 stars every match with no dead weight. But the past two days have been dreadful, and to make matters worse, because the ships are tier 8 and it's more or less required to purchase the upgraded consumables, I'm regularly having 400k+ damage games where I lose 50,000+ credits because everyone's dying before Gorgon even shows up.

There's simply too much going on, coupled with unique ships and unique consumables, for a lot of players to handle. Over the past two days, I'm seeing CV's ramming BB's in the filth 3 minutes into the match, DD's camping at Rasputin's spawn and dying to his secondaries before they even launch torps, and BB's that don't use their heal while they have 3 allies at 1/4 health within their radius.

It's far too complex a scenario to allow everyone to play, and the end result is the op becoming a near-guaranteed loss of credits. This is precisely the reason, I presume, that every previous op was designed for the simpler tier 5/6 gameplay. That said, it's easily been the most entertaining scenario when I've matched with decent or better players.

Bottom line/ tldr: Too much time and effort went into making this op awesome (and it is awesome) to let it be ruined for everybody because of the bottom 10%.

Yeah, the skins made me buy the camo too. Got the $50 package, got all the skins and then some.

Very thoughtful of WG to do this. I hope we'll see some cool skins for T10 ships next year, namely the Yamato.

I find that the teams are getting slowly better. I've gotten one to four stars thus far but the fifth one has yet eluded me. Getting 5 stars may be a bit of a challenge as it generally requires a BB that's will run into the Filth and ram the big boss. I got Rasputin in my last game fairly easily with the cruiser but about the time everyone was asking where the Gorgon was the timer ran out.

The players are getting better at the scenario, I found everyone is doing a lot better except for the carrier players. I have played maybe a dozen matches (probably less) and have only seen the carrier activate the Eclipse (whatever it is called) in one of the games. Every other time the carrier just flees to back of map and is pretty much the last you see or hear of them. Best so far has been a 4 star win in spite of terrible carrier play. Luckily we had enough BBs and good CAs to just beat the crud out of the bots. You most definitely need a BB in the Filth to kill Gorgon. But seriously, you carrier players need to understand how important those consumables you are carrying are.

I agree OP. This event is fun. For me, the challange is a big part of it. I also do not mind the fact that I need to get guild mates or other friends to join to get 5 stars. It took 2 tries.

Reminds me a little of the early wow raids. :) Good times.

I got over 400k damage this morning with the CV too, and 7 kills to boot. Unfortunately, the rest of my team didn't do as well and we lost. I've noticed that this scenario requires the majority of players to be on the ball, there isn't a lot of room for carry.

if you survive, you will get at least 1 star and a win plus camo.  i find that 3/4 isn't that tough if you survive and do lot of dmg (make sure you have premium consumable and all the mods)    5 star is  tough due to gorgon and team needing to save 2 towers.
