She's perfect as a premium cruiser.  A one-off cruiser design with some interesting history.

Plus I believe she'd be the most heavily armored cruiser in the U.S. branch, giving her a unique status.  WG would sell a million of these.

I'm guessing she'd be a Tier 8.

This would be a fun ship for them to add.

Probably bring a little more to the table than the Prinz Eugen did :Smile_hiding:

From what I can see its basically a Baltimore hull with the New Orleans' guns.

Interesting.

Actually it's Cleveland's hull with New Orleans guns

I recall that she had a Cleveland hull with beefed up armor and New Orleans class guns/turrets. I'd very likely buy one if WG presented her in the shop. I'm done buying any of the endless BBs that flood the shop. I might make a exception if/when Alaska comes out. I want more CRUISERS dang it! :Smile_playing:

Ah, all these American Cruisers... So similar looking :Smile-_tongue:

But seriously, this would be an entertaining ship to play if they ever released it.

No. Rather they put Wichita in as the tier 8 tech tree ship and put New Orleans down to tier 7 where she belongs. Want a premium cruiser? Use Oregon city.

Yeah but honestly I'd rather see Wichita as a tier 8 tech tree heavy cruiser when the CA/CL split happens and drop New Orleans down to tier 7 where she belongs.

There are plenty of U.S. cruiser designs.  As a unique one off, Wichita makes more sense as a premium.

I agree New Orleans should be dropped down to Tier 7.  Baltimore should take the Tier 8 slot, and Oregon City should be slotted into replace Baltimore at Tier 9.

This would make sense as Oregon City was the successor to Baltimore, and the predecessor to Des Moines.

I don't think that they should release any USN premium cruisers at tier 6 or above until after they've done some work on the USN CL/CA line split.  I don't think that the line split as to be released before they release new prem cruisers, but I do think that they need to figure out which cruisers fit in which tier slots, etc. so that they know what they have left to work with (for prem cruisers) and where those ships would be properly slotted, tier wise.

All Oregon City is a slightly redesigned Baltimore with 1 smoke stack instead of two so it really makes no difference to have Baltimore drop and put in Oregon at tier 9. Same difference with Fargo and Cleveland.

They could play with the soft stats to differentiate them, however.  But either way, I agree New Orleans needs to go to Tier 7.

I'm pretty sure Des Moines had the strongest armor scheme of any USN cruiser, and almost any cruiser ever.

Depends where you're looking.

Wichita has the thicker belt.

Des Moines has the edge on Deck Armor, plus a little bit extra on the conning tower.

Wichita was really well armored, and for a Tier 8 cruiser, it would be substantial.

USS Helena would be much more entertaining but I agree a T8 premium USN cruiser needs to be introduced.

She'll probably show up in the eventual Light Cruiser branch.

Des Moines is. Wichita only has the same armor as Cleveland.

Nope.  Wichita is up-armored from the Cleveland.

USN needs a tier 8 cruiser premium, period.  While I enjoy the tier 7s we do have It'd be nice to train a Captain, AND complete some campaigns while I'm at it.

Oregon City is just a Baltimore subclass. It's the same ship as Baltimore but with a superstructure that looks like Des Moines. I'd rather see Wichita as the premium. I suspect we won't see her(or any premium US cruiser) until they decide on the USN cruiser split though.

I thought both had an equal 152mm thick belt?

I strongly agree.

But I also thought there probably shouldn't be any premium CV's before the 'rework' - and look where we are with Enterprise, OP Kaga and worst of all Graf Zeppelin...

Almost. Wichita predated Cleveland. It's an improved version of Brooklyn's hull with New Orleans guns. Wichita's hull was then used as a base for future CA designs (Baltimore).  Cleveland is basically another modification of Brooklyn's hull with 4 of her 5 turrets and better structure and armor, and much more AA.

The difference is they don't have to risk re-tiering a premium with the CVs. If they release an American cruiser before they figure out how they are moving them they may get themselves stuck with a premium that is now on the wrong tier. That's the other reason I don't think they are going to drop New Orleans down to T7. Then they have to significantly buff Indianapolis which then becomes inferior to her tech tree cousin. Indy definitely still needs a buff but I don't think they want to buff it enough to match New Orleans (which is mostly the same ship but better) on the same tier.
