I just realized that 8 of my top 10 most played ships are premium ships.  They're just so much more fun/interesting than the line ships in most cases.

I have a new goal. . . If I can get a few more premium ships over the 120 game threshold, I can squeeze line ships out of my top 10 altogether.  I have a new goal to work towards.

If you don't own any premium ships, buy some today!

I have 28 of them. Most are meh and used in specific circumstances only. Although I really like the Oct Rev.

One problem with premiums is that it may prevent you completing a tech line. I have about 5 IJN premium cruisers. I just stopped playing the IJN cruiser line. No point right now.

Me and the Atlanta have been going steady for a while now.  I have eyes for her sister Flint though, but she loves playing hard to get.  Don't tell her.

What are you talking about?

Arizona, Scharnhorst, Tirpitz, Alabama, and many, many others are fantastic!

Working for 'free' premiums right now. Thinking of Nelson and Shinonome in particular. Of those, Nelson is certainly the more unique, but I'd just like to farm dreadnoughts.

Warspite is the perfect choice for Dreadnought farming.

The majority of my premiums are IJN and are played more often because that is where the majority of my 19pt captains are (I have all ships ground out).  That said, the only Russian, German, and British ships I play are premium just because I don't like the tech tree ships ;-).

Zao says differently...

Some tech tree ships are better than the premiums in that line.  Really like the Roon for instance (and might buy camo for it), but would never see myself paying money for a re-skinned Hipper.

That's too bad. . . I LOVE my Prinz Eugen.

But I appreciate her for more than just gameplay reasons too.  If it's just another cruiser to you, then yeah.

That's the point. I haven't gotten Zao and won't for a very long time. Once I got Takao and the other 5 IJN cruisers, moving through the tech tree would be a pain.

I have them all Except Okhotnik and the ones you can't buy anymore. I play the heck out of them, mostly because I need the credits to buy the tech tree ships.

Four of my top ten most played ships are premiums.

They make it into the roster and then get played now and then over time, it adds up.

Tree ships I tend to 'grind and release' it used to take me a long time to get through (153 games in North Carolina... I was bad) but more recently I blasted through Monarch without FXP in 29 games, so that's not going to make the top 10.

The only other candidates will be T10 ships which I tend to keep and play, except Shima/Gearing.

This may explain why I rarely play most of my premiums.  The one exception being Missouri.

There are some fun premiums, Atlanta, Scharnhorst, Kutuzov.  But none of them are any more fun than a Des Moines.  I have the premium camo for that so it's a good credit farmer though not so good as Missouri.

how so exactly? that makes no sense to me.. premium ships help you move through a line by providing income and training buffs.... get a higher tier prem or two and there's little point to playing the ships you mention, unless you just enjoy them that much.... Ibuki and Zao are worth the grind.

I am cheap so I don't buy premiums.  Got no problem at all with those who do.  However there are tech tree ships that if ya stick with em and get upgrades and captain skills are just as good. Some of them are for sure. Comes down to the player (skipper) in the final analysis.

The only ships that I have are premium ships or gift ships. After grinding out three Tier Xs in World of Tanks, only to discover that Wargaming doesn't understand what end-game content is, I gave up on grinding. I had to buy three premium ships to get into the WoWs Closed Beta, and they gave me two other premium ships besides. Tech Tree ships were never going to be a thing for me.

Any and all ships in the game can, become premium, after unlocking all modules and adding premium camo (which costs anything from 5000 doublons for a Zao to 500(?) for a tier 1/)

Not quite.  A Premium camo adds credit and XP buffs, but even with the premium camo, you can only put a captain in a tech tree ship if he is trained for that ship, which means you cannot swap captains in an out without constantly retraining them.  One of the biggest advantages of a Premium ship is that it can take any captain from any ship of the same nation whether it is trained for the Premium ship or not, so you can take any tech tree captain, put him in the Premium, the put him back in his own ship any time you want without having to retrain him.

At T10 with Premium Camo you are likely to have a 19pt captain to grind, as that tier and camo generates more XP than most tiers, you might as well produce free captain XP at T10 and gift it to whichever captain you need to train.

Game for game a better producer. I just built 500k FXP to get a 17pt skipper up to 19 for instance.

I prefer Premium ships.  I am willing to grind some lines to tier 10, but I'm not going to keep a dozen 10-15 point Captains when I can just use one until tier 10, and then use Premium ships to train him.

IMO "Premium" camo on tech tree ships is a waste of money.  You can achieve the same results with other camo, and flags.  Why do you need all that Ship XP?  I understand that more XP per game helps to train captains, and fill your captain XP bucket.

Did okay in Hipper, just didn't click with it the same way that I am with the Roon (maybe it's being able to kite with those rear mounted turrets, use the spotter plane, etc?).  As someone else said, it is very much an individual thing!

The thread made me curious to see what I played the most.  I have almost all the Premium Ships.  I knew for a fact Atlanta is my most played ship even though I don't play her as much anymore.  So, according to Warships Today, my 10 most played ships, only 4 of them were Premiums.

I also feel I need to explain myself:

NC was my first Tier VIII.

Yamato was my second Tier X and a very rough, early learning curve.  Of all the ships I have ever had, I tried the most builds in Yamato to find a happy medium.  Only a month or two ago did I find it.

Atago & Atlanta?  They were my first two Premium Ships ever and I bought them when I was new.  At the time Tier V Omaha was my highest tiered ship.  So... You got a scrub player with Tier V experience buying a Tier VII tin can and Tier VIII floating citadel, back when the old MM tier range was +/-3.  It took tremendous work to dig my Atlanta stats to passable levels after the early slaughter.  I haven't gotten down to fixing my Atago stats.

You are absolutely correct, and that is a great way to do it (gratz on the new 19 pointer, btw).  However, that assumes you have a Tier 10 ship and/or that you want to play it (or them if you have more than one).  Personally, I don't care for the high tier meta in Randoms, and, in Coop, you are more likely to end up on a team of bots than with humans at Tier 10, so I never play my Des Moines, and I am in no hurry to progress any other lines to Tier 10.

Being able to swap any same nation captain to one of my premiums is far more useful to me.
