The Daily Bounce has a French DD in supertest. Bear in mind that this is not really the most reputable source, but its existence suggests something is happening.

Two things:

  1. Is this a prelude to the French DD line?
  2. The hit points are through the roof for a T6 DD. Would this play more as a gunboat or a torpedoboat?

The French had "Giant Destroyers" This thing is a gunboat with it's 139mm guns at 12.8km range. (That's further range than Perth)

The torps are 7km range, which most at the tier have 8 km, and the conceal range is 7.5KM.

Honestly this is just a tiny bit smaller than our smaller Cruisers, but it benefits by having no citadel. A tiny size up and you'll have the Premium Pan-Asia tier 6 cruiser, railguns but sadly lightly armored and being able to get citadeled. (Also the Pan-asia tier 6 cruiser doesn't have smoke... yikes)

If true it's hard to say. French DD's would likely be a next year thing at the earliest. Also comes down to design. Then again, the "gimmicks" of premium/reward ships often end up being test beds for potential future ships, changes, and mechanics. Before UK cruisers ever came out they had data on ship performance of cruisers with smoke, or rather, one - the Iwaki Alpha. E is a test bed now for AP (which needs reworking, or rather, the bombs do), where as Saipan was a test of non uniform groups it seems (beyond the +1 that only fighters/DB's get). Kaga the first to have a none standard formation. Perth has alternative smoke screen that we could see more in the future if it works, the list goes on. Maybe it ends up being a test bed to buffing DD HP pools given some of the recent changes.

Aigle is "Eagle" in English by the way. The French build several classes of contre-torpilleurs destroyer-killers. They were positively enormous by DD standards of the day, starting at about 2,500 tons standard displacement. They straddled the line between a DD and a small CL (they are similar size to Yubari and Tenryu) and were intended to combat normal-sized enemy DDs.  I'm really looking forward to the later Le Fantastique class of contre-torpilleurs . They were similarly huge but the fastest of them could reach 45 knots.

The Daily Bounce is correct, but a little behind the times...

Is it a prelude to a French Line? Probably, I can see French DD next year.

Another interesting little tid-bit is that Massachusetts is coming too and she's most associated with the battle of Casablanca. WG have teased some of the ships in that. Massachusetts and other US Warships sank a pair of Aigle class destroyers. Is the timing coincidental?

I think this is a gunboat, with 5x 1 heavy guns and decent ROF. She should really be getting 2000 HE damage (I think the 1000 is incorrect). However how good those guns are remains to be seen. Her concealment gives her a short stealth torp window (needs CE to stealth torp at all) and although they reload fast it's only 6 fish. I see her torpedoing opportunistically as per Blyskawica.
