Hi guys!

 

So this came out on the Dev Blog today:

ST, AA mechanics

Ship detectability while using AA guns is always equal to the maximum range of those guns. This change will eliminate the situations wherein the ships with low detectability range can fire at planes without being spotted.

 

So, they are finally addressing stealth AA, thoughts?

Didn't even realize stealth AA was a thing.  Seems like I'm always spotted as soon as my AA guns fire, in any ship.

This impacts what, some stealth/AA build Fletchers?

More worried for when they make AA in smoke reveal you...

Some Russian DDs and I believe IJN DDs, as well as even Mino could do it.

 

AA in smoke actually used to do that back in beta.

Meh, i will still run full aa on all my dd's that can aa.  This won't really change much.

Stealth AA is definitely a thing.

 

It isn't a problem for any competent CV player...

 

But it does make sense that if you fire AA guns... the planes you're shooting at would likely have seen you first at a minimum.

Sounds like a simple and reasonable fix. Will be interested to see how it works with smoke once those changes go through. Will be extra nice if a ship in smoke wanting to stay hidden has to turn off their AA.

My Mino has 8.6 range, but you only detect aircraft at 8km which I think is about her air spotting distance.

Maybe with a team mate you could possibly keep planes engaged at about 8.6km without being spotted, but with pretty low DPS and that's very niche.

99 times out of 100 I get airspotted and my AA opens up simultaneously.

AA Mino, Fletcher, Gearing, Grozo, and Atlanta all could stealth AA. Been on the receiving end a lot, and guilty of abusing it in my ATL. Think Baltimore and DM could, but not 100% sure.

 

Simple matter of full concealment/AA build. Minotaur can reach beyond 8km (plane detected at 7km). ATL's previous AA detect is around 6km, shorter than its 7.2km range w/ AFT and AA range module.

 

Only question is will this also spot the offending ship while it's inside smoke. Doesn't sound like it.

Did they say they were going to add AA bubble range to the overlay? Maybe I am not remembering correctly though.

I've had my squadrons entirely deleted at times by stealth AA Atlantas that hadn't even been detected yet by anyone, no way to have even guessed they were there. Glad this is finally being addressed.

that's already displayed

unless you are talking about displaying AA bubbles of all ships on the minimap.

Yes, on the minimap, specifically when playing a CV. It would be nice to see the AA bubble of the ship you may be trying to attack.

But, but... nerfing DDs again for no reason even if they are many times the size of a plane. WG hates DDs.
