How to Get Hit, RL Version

Don't sail in straight lines, the real life version.  In the Battle of Tassafaronga, the USS Honolulu zipped and zagged and took no damage. The other cruisers maintained a constant course, even after seeing  the cruisers ahead take torpedo hits. The Admiral of the fleet got a medal for this battle. In WoWS, my Takao launched torpedoes at a Konig over 9km away. He never turned even a little. I was somewhere else by the time they hit, and someone asked if the torps were mine. Yes, they were. Blub, blub.

They desperately need to introduce a torpedo dodging tutorial.

Would the tutorial include electronic music?

Just add a bullet hell game to the screen while waiting for your queue to pop. Same concept. Go between the bad. :Smile_teethhappy:

Torpedo tutorial with actual torpedo beats  = Cobra never leaving the training room.

That happened two weeks after First and Second Guadalcanal. Doctrine had not caught up with the changing face of naval warfare and in fact before the USS Washington was able to accomplish its feat during Second Guadalcanal Halsey had to break the rules about sending BB's into constricted waters.

I rarely take torp hits, and many of the ones I do take, I take on purpose, because I want my ship and guns aimed where they are, and I know the torps won't really hurt me. This is when I'm in a BB, of course. I simply dodge without even trying in any other ship, even cv's. It's really that easy, I just don't understand why so many rage about torps.

I'm completely amazed at how small the hitbox is relative to the size of the sprite.

Welcome the Shooter genre known as Bullet Hell.

I play Touhou, Gradius, Deathsmiles, and other bullet hell shooters. Battleship mains who whine about too many slow-moving projectiles in the water make me laugh for this reason.

You don't know dense bullet patterns.

I still have Gradius on an original NES.  Tis a great game, and would probably teach folks a lot about reflexes and pattern recognition now days.

Absolutely. Gradius 3 would be good for this. It looks good and has the same gameplay.

Gradius V on the PS2, however, is much closer to a bullet hell title. The spinoff Otomedius Gorgeous sometimes has so many bullets on-screen that it causes slowdown on an Xbox 360.

Then there's bullet hell fighting games like Senko no Ronde or Touhou Gensou Rondo.

People need to learn how to dodge. Take Piccolo's advice, squares.

The difference is that those are actual patterns and can be memorized / predicted, these in WoWS aren't.

That said, I have nothing but respect for people who are good at bullet hell games. I know I'm not in the least.

You're right, most of them are patterns, but a good deal of them (And, universally, the most difficult cards in the series) fire random bullet spreads.

Curiously enough the earliest example is Cirno, universally considered a weak boss, and yet has Freeze Sign [Perfect Freeze] which is a metric buttload of randomly directed bullets flying in all directions, freezing, then rushing down the screen like darts. Again, random.

And some bullet hell games, namely Gradius, Einhander, the Raiden series, and R-Type focus on random bullets aimed at the player's location, the difficulty comes from how many and how fast they move vs how quickly you can avoid them. This is most analogous to avoiding fire in WoWS, as again it's aimed at the player directly.

They do, get hit enough times and you will learn.  Or, blame newbs and rage quit.  Either works.
