Righto lads! So a few folks have been chatting about Trek around here so I thought it wouldn't hurt to have a central thread for Trek-related banter. If Kancolle's shipgirls can have a thread, why not sphesssheeps? :D
So, to get the ball rolling: Favourite Trek film or episode and why?

Everything except The JJverse

Why? Because it's still good Star Trek

I can agree that it can be a bit too different, but for a modern remake they can do worse.
Now, if you want a modern Star Trek sticks to classic Trek acting, filmography and set design, there's always Star Trek Continues

Love STC, sad that they only got one season before Discovery came and shut them down

Film? Hmm...I'd have to say Nemesis. I just love the space battles and Enterprise-E is my second favorite Enterprise from ST (First is Refit OG Enterprise from ST: TMP, and Wrath of Khan).

Not sure on episode, though I do enjoy ones with the space battles.

Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 2, Episode 16: Q-Who?

First two seasons of TNG weren't really the best but this was my hands down favorite. The introduction of the Borg was amazing and having a Q related episode is always pretty funny to see how he toys with Picard. Sadly Voyager turned the Borg into a villain of the week kind of villain.

Favorite movie is Wrath of Khan for its pacing, dialogue, and freaking Khan man. Space battles were pretty cool too.

For films I'm torn between Wrath of Khan and Undiscovered Country... as for episodes, well theres a LOT to dig through, but I'm pretty fond of TOS, and right now I'm about halfway through DS9. I like that it's less about the best and brightest and more about random people trying to make the best out of an old hulk barely held together by duct tape.   They all have their moments but I feel it's been a steady decline since the original series ended, not sure if that's the nostalgia goggles talking or just the quality of the storytelling

@Doomlock, Ever seen the DS9 ep Sacrifice of Angels?

Here's my Dominion War Era Federation Battleship. 68 decks, two Defiant bays(so four Defiants total), and a fighter wing 156 strong housed in a double decked hanger. Maximum warp velocity is rated at Warp 8.7. She's almost self sufficient. She's got hydroponics bays to grow food for the crew, facilities to construct new Defiants, fighters or replacement components for damaged starships, and ,unlike a certain Intrepid, a way to replace photon torpedoes while underway. The only thing she needs which she can't produce is antimatter. All the Phaser arrays, Pulse cannon turrets and windows aren't drawn yet, they come on Tuesday. The Main deflector is based off of the USS Dauntless/alien ship thing from Voyager because reasons.

This reminds me of a video from awhile back....

This was from some time ago. Your Federation Battleship (While its highly unlikely Starfleet would build something like that....) reminds me of this.

Yeah, that's what inspired me. The Arizona has a lot of wasted space inside for her size, I wanted to have a ship about the same size but have it actually be useful thus the mobile starbase-ish starship.

This should sate your thirst for shooty

Not too bad. Not sure how I feel about hauling Defiants, but I'll wait till you finish more before I critique that.
Seems to me you're making a vastly oversized Odyssey

Yeah, liked the concept and some of the design, but its way too big. It has too many windows for a battleship.

Something I've wondered about capital ships in Sci-Fi is that why do they always give them necks? A majority of Starfleet's designs have necks, a Star Destroyer has a neck, even the Galactica from Battlestar has a neck. Whats with the neck fetish?

Trek started the trend and I've always hated it in Federation design, it's a structural weakness that Star Trek Beyond finally addressed, thats why my favourite Trek ship (sadly not canon, but cannon~) is much tighter in its design

Well my thinking behind the Defiants was a powerful escort for the battleship and one that it can carry around with it. Yes it seems like a bigger, more beautiful Odyssey, but I didn't know that Odyssey carried it's own escort. Guess I need to get out of my Regent class more often

I think somewhere in "canon" it says Starfleet chose the neck design for engineering reasons but that doesn't explain some of the other designs in Trek, (i.e., Ferengi Marauder, Romulan Warbird, those crazy Vulcan designs, and the Klingon Bird's of Prey).

That is a pretty cool design though. Why is it that the non-canon ships seem to be so much cooler looking then the canon ones?

Yup, Aquarius Class

The Jupiter also has these things, Calypso light frigates

You shouldn't feel confined by canon designs for escorts, invent something new, if you're relying on the carrier then you don't need most of the stuff Defiant has, strip the ship down to escorting essentials and you could fit more than 4 Defiants in there

1

Mercury class from Star Trek Online, games not considered canon but has plenty of great content that would make for a good TV series

Well, my battleship's meant to be on station indefinitely. The Defiants are for raiding enemy forces, going for supplies, and escorting the battleship into a fleet action.

Also, I don't feel constricted to canon designs, I just prefer the Defiant over everything else.

But wouldn't it make more sense to make a ton of Defiants instead of one giant battleship? You know, not having all your eggs in one basket?

But can a crap ton of Defiants take down three Borg Tactical Cubes in less than a half hour?

If your either Picard or Worf with a crapton of plot armor (armour for you brits) then yes, you can.
