How to get oil

So far as I understand it, you get oil with each container you collect...yet my oil remains at zero no matter how many containers I get. 

I'm surprised that the forum search didn't bring up any threads about oil, because I'm sure that I'm not the only one to ever need assistance. 

 

So how about it?  Is that not how it works?

There should be a tab in the far right side on the upper screen with your clan name if you are officially part of the clan. Click on that and see if your name is in the clan roster. If you don't see neither, the clan officers hadn't put you officially yet.

I'm in.  I'm only talking about the containers since then.

Since being a member of a clan, I have received a couple dozen containers, opened all of them, and have a grand total of zero oil

Its a good question.... when I first joined a clan after battles you’d see an oil icon with the amount collected and if you went to the clan you’d see the amount added to the total and and after you get to a certain amount you can do something with it but lately like the last 3 or 4 days nothing ... no oil collected .. not sure what I did to collect it in the first place ... doing the same kick Butttte getting sunk thingy

I ran into this problem early on and put in a support ticket to WG about this very issue. Here's how the system works. 

 

Oil is given upon the collection of a container.  You have to affirmatively hit the "Collect Container" option, choose the type you want (type doesn't matter for the oil, but you need to go through this step anyway).  You then need to open the container to receive the oil.  

 

If you don't do all of these things, you'll still get the container and all the goodies inside but you will receive no oil for your efforts. 

 

Try this out, if it doesn't work then send WG a ticket because this method has worked for me 100% of the time.

I guess it is ticket time, because that's given me no oil.

if  your in a clan to get oil each container you open gives you 10 oil, but you have to collect 5 containers before you start collecting oil for the  6th one,

So on  your 6th container, you start collecting 10 oil etc etc etc .  Thats how i understand it to work.

ok new to a clan.. 5 days in.. the clan screen says i have collected 90 oil. but when i collect a normal container i see no mention of oil.. just the regular consumables, flags, and stuff.  Where do you see on your personal port screen where the oil is that you are collecting?

You collect oil the second you collect a crate. It shows up under "notifications", that little tiny tab on the bottom right hand part of your port screen. I think the two tabs there are "battles" and "notifications". One is where you can revisit your scores from a recent battle and the other gives you a list of stuff you have either payed out or earned in the game. Oil does not show up on the prize screen when you open up a crate. Hope that all makes sense.

I think the game should give you 10 oil for every battle regardless of clan or not - was the original statement I made.

Sorry, that is not correct. You get oil from collecting containers. Daily containers, containers you earn in missions/event and containers you buy. You get 10 oil per container, UNLESS you are NOT in a clan. People NOT in a clan do not earn oil. Some events, like clan battles, give out oil as a reward, but they are not given out as a battle reward, unless it is part of some event that specifically says it is giving oil for doing such and such.

The only place I ever see that I collect oil is in the notifications screen as I collect containers.. 10 for each container I earn.   You don't actually get the oil,  your clan treasury does. It is a clan currency that is used by clan leaders to upgrade buildings for your entire clan.. As they upgrade various buildings it earns you and every member of your clan bonuses and discounts.   There is nothing you as a player can do with oil?  If you go to your clan roles you will see beside your name how much oil you have earned for your clan.. that is the only record of it I am aware of?    Hopefully this is what you are wondering/asking?

Thank you. All this time I've been trying to find out how to get the containers that had oil. I thought choosing Resources containers would have them, but I only got coal. I see that I've actually have 70 oil now.

You will not find oil INSIDE the crates, only coal, free xp, and signals (in the Resources crates). You get 10 oil for every crate you collect. If you grind out all three daily crates, you will get 30 oil. It shows up on the little announcements tab on the bottom right side of the port  screen. If you buy 20 crates from the shop, you will get 200 oil plus the goodies inside those crates. It is the same with any crates in the game. You can also earn oil by participating in Clan Battles.

It's simpler than that.  You get 10 Oil by obtaining a container - any container.

I am sure that this is no longer an issue for you but for someone new it could be something they wonder about.  Individual players can collect oil provided they are in a clan.  If a player is not in a clan, they will not collect oil.  The reason is that an individual player cannot use oil; only a clan can.  Oil is used to build the clan base.  The benefit of being in a clan is that as the base is built, the costs of ships for clan members lowers, you can get a higher collection on coal which can be used to buy ships, consumables, flags, etc.  You can only get steel in clan battles.

I hope this helps explain the use of oil.  Generally, if you collect oil it will show once a container is collected in the lower right of the screen; there are pop ups that scroll and confirm.  However, if you do not think you have received oil, and you are in a clan, try this.  Before you start playing go to the clan page and look to see how much oil has been reported in your earnings for the clan.  Every clan members name appears.  You will find our oil to the right of your name.  Then, collect some containers or anything else you are supposed to get oil from and go back into the clan roster and see if you oil collection has increased.  If it has, great!  If not, get screen shots - before and after and send in a ticket.  I hope this helps someone.

i started my own clan just for the little bonuses of oil, sure 2% exp isn't huge but it adds up over time...  not really interested in joining a clan.
