Pan Asian DD Torpedoes

I know that Pan Asian DDs are going to have deep water torps, but does anyone know if those are the only ones you can equip or if there will be the standard torpedo option as well.  Just wondering.

From the many articles that have been written about this subject, I wanna say that it will be an option, because with these there is no way to kill other Destroyers because with the Deep Water Torps, DDs are safe. So I would assume (which I try not to do) that there will be a standard option and a deep water option.

I was under the impression that they were the only option, which was why radar was also being provided as an option since you can't contest smoke with torps.

So far, all they have is DWT.

Keep in mind, its all still "work-in-progress".  They might be an option . They might not.  Maybe they'll be canned as a 'bad idea' altogether (I doubt it, but it could happen).  Until we get the final product, we won't know.

They should be looking at it from a consumer's point of view. While the DD mafia's hatred of all things BB could dictate this kind of all or nothing tactics against them; for most of us non main ship players being shackled with a weapon system that can only be used against certain ships is a handicap bad enough that I won't be buying or playing any ship that doesn't have an option to choose.

I’d be interested to know if they’ll become an option or standard on the 2 premium Pan Asian DDs as I own both (Anshan and Yo Lang).

If your aim is so bad your only option to kill other dd's is with torpedo's then maybe you shouldn't consider this line. I rarely kill dd's with torps, I use them to force the enemy dd to turn and take disadvantageous paths sure.

Maybe they should just not contest caps. Seriously the tier 9 and 10 are fletcher and gearing. Two excellent gunboats. You should not be relying on torpedos for your kills.

I tend to agree there. The deep run torps are going to be excellent at killing BBs with their shorter detection range. I feel like the PA DDs are going to be better used hunting the enemy's big ships from the shadows than fighting over caps.

There's a lot of variety up the line...with different accompanying ideal strategies for each ship.  But, the DWT's (with their insane detection ranges) are going to make this line a consistent BB/CA/CL killer.  It seems this playstyle that you reference will be a consistent denominator.  I'm very curious as to how the torp spreads are going to look.  Anything but an abnormally wide spread will make them deadly.

I'm looking forward to them. I favor IJN DDs currently because I like torpedo play when I play DDs. Feels like these are going to be similar but possibly better in some ways.

What some are concerned about is will they be better in ALL ways.

We'll have to wait and see. Sure they can take radar but they'll have to drop smoke to have it. If I'm going to be playing them as a stealthy ambush predator, I'm not going to opt out of smoke. I imagine myself playing them very similarly to IJN DDs, but the harder to spot torps will give them some level of advantage there. 

Kind of a shame too since oxygen torps were historically hard to spot due to nearly no bubble trail. IJN should be the one with the super stealthy torps but I digress.

But are they better than the IJN even without taking radar? Will the IJNs only advantage be the ability to torp other DDs (assuming it isn't just an option for the PA DDs)? Looking mostly at the low- mid tier ships where no DDs will have radar. The potential for radar means all IJN DDs have to give them a wide berth just in case they have it so just having one on the other team would work for area denial vs IJN. With similar concealments you will have no warning before being lit up. The PA DD can then decide to stay gun silent and hide (assuming you try to run back to stealth) or shoot based on the situation. Just hoping WG doesn't make a whole line of ships the last choice for whatever you want a DD to do.
