I recently visited the USS Cassin Young museum ship in Boston this summer and found that one of the torpedo launcher sets has been removed. Why is that?

The Cassin Young is displayed in her late 1950’s fit. She sports a prominent tripod mast in place of the simpler arrangement carried in 1945. Hedgehog anti-submarine mortars have replaced her forward 40mm guns, the forward quintuple torpedo tube bank has been landed, and her 20mm guns removed. But she is still unmistakably a Fletcher class destroyer. I’ve photographed her with a modeler’s eye, attempting to capture details and subtleties not always apparent at first glance.

It says they were landed and her 20 mm guns were removed.

sometimes newer weapons are developed and in order to install them others are removed. a lot of the old WW2 torpedo mounts were removed because they needed room for new missile and ASW helichopers were developed in the 50's and 60s'!:fish_book:
