If I may, not speaking the language in question, and not being well-versed on French Ships... What ships are we looking at, here?  Can anyone identify them?

Given my family history with richielieu all I can say is fave fun wrecking the ship named in his honor.

For those who forgot, my family ancestors include French Huguenots who fled France for England, Vienies Jews, and residents of Madenburg.

Granted the last was Technicaly Tilley, but that glorified pile of excrement was paying Protestants to carry on there war in the Germanys which resulted in the war that included the Sack of madenburg.

What next? Will an Egyptian freak out over running into a Turkish player because of a grudge match fought between a Pharaoh and a Hittite King back in 1400 BCE?! ARE YOU SERIOUSLY HOLDING A GRUDGE FROM THE RENAISSANCE?!?!!!!??!

Quote

For those who forgot,

........what the hell kind of thread were you in where THAT was a relevant topic of discussion? Just how many people do you think stopped to read about and be transfixed enough to remember the ancient family history of some random guy on the internet who is so un-memorable (to me at least) that I can't even recall seeing you before......
Cause now I'm actually kinda interested to know about that thread, not your family history, I couldn't give a crumb of a baguette about that, I wanna know what kind of forum nightmare was happening where that was actually a vital piece of the conversation...

You do know that We do live in a world where people are holding on to Grudges that aparently pre date the crusades, and bigots in this country, including sitting US congressmen, still dredge up Old Testament scripture passages to explaine what's going on in the Middle East today?

As for that ship. His history came up a while back in a thread where people were discussing some other interestingly named ships....

for example

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Robert_E._Lee_(SSBN-601)

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Stonewall_Jackson_(SSBN-634)

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Dixon_(AS-37) yes we named a sub tender after the commander of a Confederate Submarine and then

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Hunley_(AS-31). We then named a submarine tender after his Confederate  Navy Sub....

But to be fair, the US navy has gotten better at this, just ask the Navy about the https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USNS_Cesar_Chavez_(T-AKE-14)

Aparenty the fact that He complained about his Service in the Navy and was a anti war activist was ignored. . . Yes he actualy referred to his two years in the navy as the worst years in his life.Repetedly.

Heres reality, the US and France are not the only country to name there ships after questionable people who when you think about it.

in fact other Navy's have named ships after Slaveowners and  suspected [edited].  For example...

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Washington_(SSN-787)

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Thomas_Jefferson_(SSBN-618)

oh. Wait. The Ships  named after the Town Burner/ slave owner anfd the [edited] slave owner were also American Presidents...

by comparison naming a ship after a Catholic who prosecuted Protistants and Jews (granted hard to blame him vs the Protistants in France during a uncivil war) while paying Other Protistants to KillOther Chatolics is kind of minor....

hmmm

Well there were ships named indirectly after a folklore based demonic mass murderer...

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMAS_Vampire_(D68)

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Vampire_(P72)

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMAS_Vampire_(D11)

Seriously that's 2 destroyers and a entire class of subs.

kind of makes you wonder about the British sand Australians sometimes...

You should consider cutting back on the religious ramblings and complaints of other folk's naming conventions.
After all, Canada named several of their ships after native tribes that massacred Americans in the early 1800s, nobody bats an eye because they don't get caught up in the symbolism of things that have no effect over them, such as your grudge against someone from FOUR HUNDRED YEARS AGO.

I'd ask a mod to step in over politics... but can they even do that when the politics are older than your own country?

Sarcasm is clearly lost on you.

that and the point that people and country's tend to let history whitewash there heroes and villains, and that the US is actualy among the worst offenders.

otherwise why would I have even pointed out that the US has Honored Multiple slaveowners, a Anti US traitor,  a warship used to attack and sink a US warship, and even a proven [edited] by naming ships after them, Including Washington and Jefferson.

Let's keep politics and religion out of this thread shall we? We're talking about the new French ships, let's stick to it.

Thanks!

With such a small frame, and with 270 mm on her belt she should make an excellent ram~
In fact, you can see footage of her exploding here at 4:08 in the video, behind Dunkerque, and at 4:41
