At the end of a match, I have a very simple process to determine (in general) if I contributed my part.  I use the "top of my tier" rule.   In short, the goal is to finish at the top of one's tier...or higher.  There is a simple and quick check.  On the end screen, count the number of ships on my team with a tier higher than mine.  Now, count down that many from the top.  If I finish in that count (win or lose), then I feel like a made a good contribution.

 

Again, this is a general rule of thumb to quickly determine how well you played considering the tiering. And it places a high bar if you are top tier.  I've always said, with top tier comes top tier responsibility.  

 

I also have a carry index.  If I top out and score (as shown on the end screen) more than 1.5 times greater than the second player on the team...that's a carry.

 

Note that I don't ascribe to playing for points.  I play to win.  Play to win...figure out how to win...and let the score chips fall where they may.  The rules above are "rules of thumb" applicable for those who play to win.

I think the "top of my tier" rule is a particularly good measure.  You are basically counting the number of ships that "should" have done better than you and seeing where you are falling within that range rather than just measuring how well you do against your "peers."  In the latter case, being at the top of your tier while at top tier, but falling in towards the bottom of the team list because your entire tier did worse than the mid and low tier ships should not be much of a consolation.

I have a similar rule regarding ship type. DId I do the best as a destroyer? Battleship? Cruiser? Most of the time if I see I did above my average stats I consider that I have done my part.

Nice system. It beats my HP-based version.
