35 Skyhooker Members 102 posts 5,015 battles Report post #1 Posted September 29, 2017 Hey, old salts, Could someone please explain how to effectively aim into smoke? I might hit 1 shot in 50 if I'm lucky, yet when I'm in smoke, the enemy seems to zero me far more often. Where, relative to the muzzle flash, do you aim? If anyone has screenshots to illustrate, that would be fantastic. Or, if you know of a video explaining it, please post. I've looked on youtube, and although there are a few showing it being done, all seem to be just bragging vids with no explanation of what they're doing. Thanks! ~Skyhooker

I am old, but not salty. have never had any reason to be [edited]salty. I have recently had some hits resulting from firing directly at the bottom of the flashes. while this sounds like it would be too high for AP to cause much damage, on a few, actually only once, it resulted in a cit. have no idea what was in there, I thought I was firing at a DD. battle results showed hits on three CAs, no clue which one it was. sort of hoping it was the Atlanta, they deserve it. if you are shooting at a ship that is moving with rapid reload, you can even come up with a bit of a semi informed lead. If two salvos look like they're coming from the same place aim low and dead center between the shots. If the target seems to be moving judge its speed between salvos and try to give it some lead, but at that point unless it's pretty much a one shot kill I disengage and come back later. 398 [WAIFU] Delicious_Flat_Chest Members 1,030 posts Report post #4 Posted September 29, 2017 (edited) if you are in a BB you can use a spotter plane and fire at the base judging on the direction of the tracers moving in the cloud, that will tell you where their ship is going. Looking into shots being fired from smoke you see the lateral position (left-or-right). A spotter plane lets you see the depth. Flamu shows this method beautifully in some of his videos.
