Quick question;

Roon/Hindenburg or Neptune/Minotaur?

Have Balt/Des Moines, will soon move another cruiser line to 9 and 10. Have 8 on German, Brit, French.

Can't really compare the two choices. Neptune and Minotaur are scrappy little anklebiters on fast forward while Roon and Hindenburg are large pitbulls with the heaviest hitting 8" AP in the game and troll armor. They fulfill entirely different roles and have entirely different playstyles.

Haven't played the KM cruisers.

But I like RN to tier 8.

Then Neptune is similar, but you're T9.

Minotaur is a whole different animal.  Can't really take hits.  At least to the Edinburgh, if you get stuck alone and hiding in your smoke is a waste of time cause you can see anything, you can fire and run and have a chance of weathering a few hits.

But the Mino at tier 10 needs support big time.  If you can hide in smoke, have targets spotted by BB's or other ships on your team, and you have an exit route, it's deadly.  The turrets turn as fast as a DD's and shoot even faster.  But you need patience and have to sail with the crowd.   Things I sometimes don't have or want to do, so I'm a poor T9 and T 10 player, but slowly improving.

The Hindi is probably my favorite ship currently, its a great multi purpose ship. The RNCLs are also fun but they are one trick ponies.

Yep. It's a pretty good trick though, and the choice between smoke or radar gives some semblance of diversity.

Smoke Taur FTW.

I do think Hindenburg might perform better in the expected meta of clan wars.

She can do it all, except for radar of course. Se is really tanky and hits hard... even if CV are ot around she has some amazing AA, her only bad thing is her below average speed.

Des Moines is pretty light on the armor as well. I think Roon and Hind. are what I want. How about a comparison of Des Moines and Minotaur?

I would caution against Neptune as I believe the smoke nerf is going to be a body blow to her. Any DD knowing it just has to motor up to 6.5km away (outside its' own spot and hydro) is going to create a dead Neptune.

Smoketune and Smoketaur are definitely going to become a bit less interesting, leading to more Radartunes and Radartaurs I think.

LOL, the de-evolution of the thread begins! Thanks to those that actually had something pertinent to say.

How is this devolving the thread? i was agreeing with Lert's assessment.

I find Roon a lot of fun to play. I mean, KBerg with 8" guns? What's not to like?

I'm only as far as Fiji, (which I also enjoy) but I don't really use the smoke to its full potential, so the Edinburgh to Minotaur might not be my cup of tea.

It all depends on what you want. If you want to be the little smoke hiding biotch  that everyone hates, go with the Royal Navy. If you want to be the runs and hides at the edge of the map to be hunted down and killed last, go with the Hindensissy.

Hindenburg all the way. Want to burn people down, she can do it accurately at range, brawl, yep 8 torps per side and deadly AP. BB shows too much side at range, 10 thousand damage inbound every 8.8 seconds.

Your big choice will be stealth or rudder. Stealth gets you to 13.7km but her rudder is not super fast. Mount rudder instead and she can dance quite nicely and dodge a ton of damage. But you will be spotted at 16km. And since a well driven Hindy is extremely dangerous, you will be taking a ton of incoming.

But you just cannot compare the 2 lines. Play style is way too different.

Could well do. Ironically the more radar boats, the fewer smoke boats diminishing it's usefulness.

The Minotaur's 5.4km smoke-firing detection is a heck of a lot more survivable than the Neptune's 6.58km though...

If that's how you're playing the Hindenburg, you're doing it wrong.  Taking AP at range is more punishing than up close.
