Is to see ships have different stats for the different game modes, ala WT for example.

 

Its simple really. Having pve and pvp gameplay balanced with the same stats for ships is, honestly, extremely hard. You balance a ship for pvp, and it may be perfect, but then it completely screws it over in operations, or vise versa. A simple solution would be to separate the stats of ships so they have a pvp stat card, and a pve/operations stat card, much like the way WT does it. This would have the benefit of having more historical maneuvers and fleet operations in pve while still having a balanced pvp. For example, having smoke be MUCH more defensive in pve than in pvp, or having HE and fires act much differently, or trying different things for AA in operations. They could even have a separate upgrade module tab for pve/operations, so you wouldn't have to respec when switching between them.

 

I dunno, just a brain storm thingy I thought up on the spot, but wanted to share. v('-' )v

I do switch things around for PVE, mostly I just turn off the consumables. They will never make it so the ships have different upgrades because it takes a lot of credits to change those and people buy credits with real money. The same thing goes for Captains skills.

What are you're guy's thoughts on this?

I don't think it will happen,  but what I would like to see is the ability to have 2 of each ship in port so I could set them up differently for PvE and PvP and have 2 captains, again each one setup for the appropriate environment.

I know that my ideal setup for PvE and PvP would be different on most ships, but I am not going to respec each captain and ship each time I change battle modes.   Having the option to have multipler ships in port with different setups would be a bonus for me.

Star Trek Online has a system similar to this, basically allowing you to have several different builds that you can easily swap between.  Of course, they aren't charging you real money (i.e. doubloons) every time you swap out a module either.

And is suffering hugely, to the point of being essentially dead because it doest do what the OPs point is, which is separate stats for PvP/PvE

not that S13 helped or anything..

I'd rather that the developers focus on tailoring the PVE experience to work with the ships as they exist, instead of wasting time in trying to balance an entirely new set of parameters for them.

Probably true.  I pretty much bailed when they went deep into all that temporal war stuff. Haven't logged in for over a year.

A better example was probably City of Heroes, which did a great job of maintaining completely separate builds and stats for PvP.  Of course, their PvP portion actually sucked rocks thru a straw, but it wasn't because of their build management.

add a search  pve setup ships  and pvp setup ships  and allow you to assign the ships to the list you want.

I think its easier just have separate stats for each, based on the game mode you have selected at the time. That way your port doesn't get highly crowded and such. =P

ahhhh but mine is an easy thing to do based on what's already in the game without requiring a re-write of the mechanics of the game.

PvP died in that game long before S13.
