Should I buy a Nelson?

I'm about 50k away from a Nelson & don't know if I should wait for the MO (which will be literally forever) or buy Nelson once I have enough. Nelson feels more indimidating at her tier with those OP heals, what are your thoughts?

 

I know not having CVs in CWs is the hot topic right now, but this is a large purchase decision & I can't have both.

Get a Mo if you're consistently out of credits. Get a Nelson is you're actually interested in a unique playing ship. Judging by your sig stats I think you play well enough to not constantly be short credits, so personally if I were you I'd go for Nelson and Iowa. All you're missing out on then is radar on a T9 battleship.

Yeah, pretty much this.  MO makes a lot of credits, but I have a lot more fun with the Nelson.

I have Nelson, and she's quirky wierd fun.  She isn't what I typically call fun, because I like faster, more agile, BBs.  Scharnhorst, Alabama, Tirpitz/Bismarck, Iowa are my favorite BBs.  Nelson is not that.  But she's in a good tier and has some nice traits.  I'm glad I got her.

 I don't have a Nelson but I flipped a coin and it said "Tails", too bad I didn't designate any answers to neither "heads" nor "tails" so if you enjoy T7 ships my recommendation is to maybe get the ship.

Just undertand, Nelson IMO is a good ship but it's a very quirky good ship, even for BB standards.

 

As for Missouri, I say go for it if you like High Tier USN BB play.  It's not for everyone though.  Next PTS, give Iowa a try.  If you don't like the way Iowa plays, and she really has her peculiarities, then you won't like Missouri, despite the Radar & Credits Gimmick she has.

Thanks guys, after reading your responses I'll probably get the Nelson instead of MO.

 

I like new and exciting battleships, I also am not that big of a fan with how the Iowa performs along with the annoyance of high tier games in general. At least I won't have to deal with Conqs & Yamatos in a Nelson. Iowa isn't that fun to play nowadays for me, I seldomly take her out. I have credits & various premiums to grind them for me when I'm short, so now I'm mostly trying to find ships that are fun.

Hey GoldPile! With your stats, if I were you, I'd get the Nelson.  You'll have fun, w/ good earning potential w/o a long wait for the Missouri.   The reason is probably not what you think - with your purple stats, I think you eventually will have both.  The silver crunch that you hit in WOWS won't likely hit until T9-10 w/ stats like yours (even if you run a standard account).

 

Having said that - in my case, I was playing all my lines simultaneously & not FreeXP-ing past any ships in the tech tree.  As a result, I had the FreeXP not long after the Missouri was released & could get the Nelson on release.  If you're going up the lines simultaneously, when you reach T8-T10, a lot of really expensive ships become unlocked at nearly the same time.  It's for this reason that I love the $1M plus silver earning potential of the Mizzou - it makes it a lot easier when you have a number of T10s to buy at ~$27M a ship!

Sounds to me like you made the right choice. Congratulations on your new battleship oiltanker!

No, but every T8+ BB will feel like Yamato for you.

Even Nagato citadels the crap out of these things.

 

But anyway, it is an odd duck and I might just buy it too, just for that reason.

Good luck with the Nelson, I had the Izumo (and Dunkerque), so not sure in my mind that it is all that unique (guess HE spamming and heal).  Almost instant gratification is good, ya get to play with it now.  I have the big Mo, and it is my best ship, produces credits, influences battles.  Hate facing the Mo, no matter what ship I am in, do not mind facing the Nelson as much.  Mo is worth the work to get it in the future...

Having all 9 guns forward rocks! Sure Nelson eats more damage than MO, however having 9 16inch guns all facing to the front can't be understated. You can dish out some serious smack in the Nelson for her tier. I'm a slightly above average BB player and even I'm averaging 100k with the Nelson.

I had the same choice went for Nelson. Have not regreted it at all 9 good guns upfront just enough speed and all you have to worry about is avioding citadel hits cause you can undo any other damage end game with one heal left shes a beast.

If you have a Missouri: yes, just for the fun. The Mighty Mo is just better in everything then the Nelson.

So, yes. It is a totally unique ship, lots of fun, the excellent UK heal, not real tanky and requires a certain touch, but there's no question, given your stats, that you won't do well.

id say save it for musashi, i have 390 k fxp which isnt a lot but im definitely holding on for a future fxp ship other than missouri

There's nothing quite like loosing over half your health to fires, then ducking behind an island, yelling "SHAZAM!" and hitting your heal, and reappearing on the other side back at full health - and then watching the salt pour forth in chat from the poor cruiser or DD skipper that went to all that effort setting you on fire in the first place. In a way, they should be grateful - when it comes to farming damage off of slow BB's, the Nelson and her heals are the gift that keeps on giving. And the way the damage mechanics work, this is the one BB where you WANT to take torps on your nose - even with flooding, the damage is repairable - if it hits you in the belt, it's treated like citadel damage. 1 v 1 and properly angled, you can even dance with Tier 9 BB's and hold your own - I've managed to get the better of an Alabama and FDG in close range brawls - but god help you if they get your side or straight thru your bow or stern, tissue paper would probably work better than your armor in that situation.

Depends on your criteria: Do you want to play or pay a ton more to get a very good ship or do you want to get a great ship now and dominate and start making credits now? Do you have any other premiums you can share a captain with? (Hood, Warspite, or Arizona, Texas Alabama) Are you grinding either the RN or US BB line?

Before Warships Today went down the average damage between the two ships Missouri and Nelson was 2k, but they are two tiers apart, the Missouri costs more to run.  So yes the Missouri will farm more credits but........the Nelson will farm more of everything else. Witherer, Arsonist, Confederate, high Caliber, dreadnought, fireproof....Simply due to the tier it plays at and what it can do. You will never be out of performance flags with the Nelson.

I would easily recommend the Nelson, its more fun, stronger at it's tier. pays well. farms tears and flags better than any ship in the game and is half the cost and time.
