Support your carrier because they support you

I am an aspiring carrier driver. I stopped the forward advance at tier six because manual drops/strafes, well, i'm very weak with those underdeveloped skills. I'm okay though at tier five. This is not another complaint about tier five being uptiered to a tier six battle. Nope. I have them but I work them in coop only.

Today I got the following when asking the team to protect our sole, surviving carrier. I'd already been hit by a single torp and died to flooding in my carrier. (Folks tell me when DD reach you early game, a whole lot of somebodies, yourself included, are not playing correctly. I believe it.) So here's how it went.

"Support your carrier or you will lose."

"Nah.. it's not as important at these tiers as it is in the higher tiers."

"Okay - we'll see."

We were at tier five. Reds had two carriers, we were down to one. I watched as they did nothing, he got nuked. Big time. In all fairness though, he was too close (imho) to the front line of battle. Nonetheless, <boom>. In less than maybe three minutes, the match was over. We got crushed by the two carriers, two BB and a destroyer. We had the same number of ships but no carriers. Lesson taught - and hopefully learned.

Carriers DO matter that much to the game play. Especially when it's 0:2 in favor of the reds. Not all carrier drivers are pros - most of us are joe average when it comes to driving a carrier. So please support your carrier if you want to win - because he really is trying to support you. IJN's have a very tough time deploying against USN carriers, even more so when there are two of them. Loaded with fighters.

Meanwhile I'll keep practicing my skills to better improve your combat experience. tia fyc

As a BB player, if I spawn in next to our carrier, I will push that flank to provide screening for that carrier. Far too often I see a BB and a CV spawn off to one side, kind of by themselves, and the BB just abandons the CV to lemming to the other side.

Tier 5 is where ships still cannot take care of themselves from carrier attacks...

Unless you're an AS Bogue....

Help goes both ways.

CV Battle begins at the load screen where quick mental notes of AA capability are analyzed  - both my team and the enemy.

First objective is to find and spot the DDs for the team.  They usually are found around the caps at the beginning of the battle.

If I'm in an IJN CV, scissor drop them with torps.   That usually decides the battle right there.  If they smoke up, out of position..  That also helps.  T4, T5 can't drop if detection is lost.

Wear out the 'M' button and always keep a full scale awareness of the entire battle.  Look for strays and opportunities.

DO NOT provide fighter protection at the beginning of the battle.  Those fighters are 10 times more valuable as spotters - to tell your team what the enemy is up to.

As a non-CV player. I get so frustrated when the enemy ships keep fading in and out when I'm lining up a shot.  Keeping those red ships lit up is a major factor in winning.

I have noticed lately that as I rush to a cap at the start of the game in my IJN DD, more CV's have done a fighter sweep of the cap ahead of me.

Thank You, Thank You.

I generally play this way as well. Getting flanked is my pet-peve of Warships. I can't stand it when the whole team drives off in one direction - regardless of the game mode. And when Carriers are involved, I'm of the opinion the team should do everything to prevent that from happening (CV's included). If half of the map goes unscouted & undefended, then the "toilet-bowl effect" begins to take hold and your team is a goner.

I'm all for teamwork, but teamwork doesn't mean everybody goes one direction, or to just 1 of 3 (or four) capture points. I swear, I've had more troubles with "lemming" teams in higher tiers than I do in lower ones - here recently, anyways. But I'm venturing into another subject/issue...
