It's fine the way it is. Learn to play around it, it is not that difficult.

It is doubtful it will ever be "fixed", it like Hydroacustic search is simply an extension of the auto-spot range.

When I last played a few months ago Radar (and Sonar if you're close enough) would all you to see ships threw mountains and relay that information to everyone on the team so they could target you.

 

If Radar was given proper line of sight spotting I might just reinstall the game.

If, I am not sure if they can, or if they are hard limited by the game engine.

 

It would take a complete, ground up rewrite of the code for concealment.

Island hitboxes are bad enough for randomly being where they shouldn't, don't bring it in with radar as well.

We've had peeps complaining about Radar since it first came out.

 

Everything has been argued, but it's only been recently peeps are saying it's a game engine issue.

 

Not 100% sure I believe that, even if it turns out WG happened  to say it.

No, It has been known since it was released that there was a programming issue that would make a line of sight restriction not be possible as it sits.

 

All radar does is make the assured detection range = radar range. 

 

As assured detection ignores islands, and other impediments to line of sight. And, the game engine treats smoke exactly the same as it does an island. 

 

It would take a ground up rework of the LoS and concealment mechanics to make radar OR sonar work on line of sight only.

My belief is that their engine isn't capable of handling radar in the proper way.  The only way to make it work without a serious performance hit is to have it see all within a radius.

 

Because if it was a simple fix, they would have implemented it by now.

Then they need to pull radar until they fix it.

Radar was an afterthought which is a VERY BAD development practice.  

 

no wonder they screwed up MOO.

Oh it would. IIRC WG even said as much. All radar and hydro do is extend proxy spotting range.

I agree this should be "fixed" but if what WG said is true and its a game engine limitation there is nothing they can do, unless they change the game engine.

Because it is completely unethical. It (1) punishes players for playing hard for the team and (2) places one ship at risk without reciprocal risk to the other. Game mechanics that violate the reciprocity of risk and effort that underlies good gaming ethics, such as CVs and detonations, are widely hated, and correctly so.
