this message is for the Devs. could you please consider adding the 1945 modernized version of the USS California. i think this would be a great mid level battleship addition that could be added to premium purchase list or maybe as a reward for an upcoming holiday event(halloween, thanksgiving or better yet Pearl Harbor Day December 7). the modernized USS California had main armament of twelve 14-inch guns. please also include two special flags, the California State flag and the Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Thank you very much for your consideration. I know this will be an excellent Pearl Harbor Day Premium Event.

It'll probably happen eventually (the second USN BB line) but I wouldn't hold your breath.  They've got a lot of other ships that need to come first.  And the late-war refits present a problem in that they've got way too much AA for lower tiers so you end up having to gimp their range (like Texas).

A second US BB line, for which there are plenty of ships at least up thru tier 8, is entirely possible.  However, I agree that it's probably not going to occur for a while, since there are other nations' lines that need to be done.  French DDs + BBs, the entire Italian navy, RN DD's.  Also RN and German Battlecruisers, RN carriers.  The USN CA/CL line split.

As for the USS California, it seem like it's likely a tier 6 or possibly 7.  Belongs to the Tennessee class, the class between the New Mexico and Colorado classes.  Twelve 14" guns.  Speed of only 21 kts.  Another of the USN "standard battleship" classes.

And therein lies another problem - how do you make Tennessee different enough from New Mexico to justify a new line?  Do you give her the 1945 AA suite and bump her to T7?  Or gimp her AA hard so she can be at T6 and not make the old line completely irrelevant?  I know, this dead horse has been resurrected and bludgeoned over and over.

As badly as I want Oklahoma in game, I just don't know that the second USN line is worth WG's time and effort.  It'd really only be in for completionists' sake.  From a business perspective I'm afraid including a few premiums is probably a better use of resources.  Could one of those be Tennessee?  Sure.

Adding a second BB line would satisfy a lot of NA players (and perhaps some outside of the US) for the historical completeness.  After all, the USN doesn't have a line of battlecruisers to give them a second line.  The USN just has a lot of BB designs, many of which were built, up to 1920 or so. There really are enough BB classes that were actually built to have a complete second BB line up through tier 8.

Tier 3: Delaware-class

Tier 4: Florida-class

Tier 5: Nevada-class

Tier 6: Pennsylvania-class

Tier 7: Tennessee-class

Tier 8: (late 30's) South Dakota-class

And this doesn't even account for things like the ordered but never completed early 20's South Dakota class battleships and Lexington class battlecruisers.

IMO, it would be a shame to not have these classes added to the game ... eventually.  I don't expect (nor demand) to see them for a while, given how many other major navy lines they still have to do.  But eventually would be nice.

thank you everyone for your comments and history lesson on these awesome battleships. i love this game and the WWII era but as you probably noticed i don't know too much about our USN ship history. i thought adding one of the Pearl Harbor ships to the game on or around Pearl Harbor day would be a great addition to the game and help teach some more history to those of us that didn't know much about it. thanks again for your input

I'm right there with you - I'd love to see them in game. Just not sure it'd worth WG's effort financially, but I hope I'm wrong.

Well, how good was it financially to add second German and UK TD lines in WoT?  Or many other second lines in WoT, for that matter.  I think that they'll eventually do it because at some point they'll run out of lines when they're trying to do 1 DD, 1 cruiser, 1 BB line, and 1 CV line for those nations that can support them.  And then they'll probably start looking at nations that can support second lines, be they second DD, cruiser, or battleship lines in the search for new content, same as has been done in WoT.  New content keep people interested in playing.

You're exactly right that eventually they'll run out of nations and have to go back and add line splits in order to keep bringing in new content. They're also lines that can be added via minor navies (rumor has it Swedish DDs are going to happen and I'm very much looking forward to that) but eventually that runs dry too.

It would be nice if WE could choose the names for our ships from a library of names of actual ships.  Each ship class had a certain number of ships built in that class the names for that class would be in the library.  In the USA BB's were named for States, CV's were named differently but since WWII they are named for Presidents.  Cruisers and DD's are named for families and individuals that distinguished themselves.  Same for the Captains that actually commanded ships in WWI and WWII.  The reason it would have to be a library based on history is some players would push the envelope towards pornography.  It would be an honor to the memory of the brave captains that gave the last full measure during their service to once again have them sail on their ships.  It might work like this:  You wish to acquire a t7 BB.  Certain ship designs would only be available at certain tiers as it is now.  Ship names that match the design would be available at that tier and Nation.

The only possible snag in this would be if "permission" may have to be granted by the descendants to use the names I am not sure about this though.  Obviously Steven Segallgave his permission.

Guys, if the Tennessee Class makes it in at T7, it's going to get destroyed by T9 ships when it inevitably faces them. The New Mexico is a great class at T6 because it will never face T9...

Another twist would be Tall ships.  A fleet of Tall ships from the 1600-1800's and battles like Trafalgar etc...  Now those would be some up close and personal battles.

This would make a good premium.  In fact if the did all the old US BB's that were upgraded in 44 I would buy them.

This is half true; a New Mexico never faces tier 9's; now, about that "Great Class" thing ...

As a Californian, I'd be very grateful if WG would add our beloved 'Prune Barge' in the game!6V6wRNT.gif.abdccfd11a866b09910c33d67d83b8f3.gif

If not the Mare Island Shipyard, the at least San Francisco in the 30's/40's. My US dreadnoughts will fit right in with the scenery.

You don't think New Mexico/ Pennsylvania is a great class? IMO, her only weakness is her low speed...but that's a weakness of the line until tier VIII.

I would like California as a premium but I want her in her Pearl Harbor configuration, that is how I remember her most, especially if you ever got a chance to play aboard her in Medal of Honor Rising Sun back in the glory years of gaming. I'd also Like to see Oklahoma and Maryland premiums in Pearl Harbor configuration while West Virginia gets her modernization, and maybe an Utah in her glory years, although I'd much rather have Florida. Also, I think we just need San Francisco as a port, dunno how many times I've seen pictures of warships sailing under the Golden Gate bridge. All in good time...

Well, I think first that these are actually two different classes of ship, but to answer your question; no, I don't think the New Mexico class of Bb's is "great". I think they are adequate, do their job, and are competitive; but to be "great" requires a stand-out performer, which this ship is not. Good, ok; Great, nah!
