I don't care about the timing.  I think that making the majority of the missions specific to one or two ships classes is lame.  As a BB main, in this current mission, I have literally like 2 tasks I can complete for 1 star each.  I get to grind the whole campaign for basically no rewards at all.  Yay.

yeah i think that's pretty wacko too. luckily I do have hakuryu and the two Russian DDs, even though I hate scumbag DDs and sky cancers.

I didn't think anything was 'lame' since the mid 90's ...

As for the rest: learn patience young padawan.

*sigh* this instant-gratification generation ...

I'm actually enjoying this campaign because of the spaced timing.  Rather than just completing a couple of tasks over and over for stars I am getting more of the rewards.  I especially like the 5,000 free XP tasks, but I would have never had the patience to shoot down 300 planes if I could have been progressing on a new mission, and 15K free XP from these missions is huge when grinding towards the MO.

In the mid 90's things were Lame.  These days people have different ways of expressing it, but I would say stuff is HELLA LAME.  ;)  LIke gag me with a spoon hella lame.  (little 80/90 blend for ya_)

I personally have had no issues with the missions being spaced out. It makes it seem like it isn't a rush to go through the campaign.

The only thing lame around here is another post like this one complaining about something so silly.  Stop acting so entitled and learn a little patience.

You may not have noticed this, but WoWS has been moving to a very predictable system of mission types:

  • Weekly and weekend missions worth token rewards (5 flags, for ships from certain nations or of a certain type)
  • Two-week intensive mission chains with significant rewards (they used the term "mini-marathon" for a while)
  • Month-long missions with low-key requirements and moderate rewards (e.g Back to School)
  • Multi-week "hardcore" mission chains with very large rewards (no longer used; previously done for, e.g. the ARP ships)
  • Special events like the WG birthday, WoWS anniversary, and holidays

These are layered over very regular content releases (every 3 weeks, like clockwork unless something goes wrong on PTS).

The Yamamoto series is just the evolution of the "mini-marathon" and "hardcore chain" mission types, with a nice-looking Campaign holding them together. Phases unlock on the same two-week (mini-marathon) schedule, with pretty good rewards (resources for each sub-part, two supercontainers as a phase reward). Completing the whole 2-month chain gives a large reward (unique commander). Rather than think of it as some kind of time-locked system designed to frustrate you, it's actually better to think of it as an aesthetic upgrade to the old mini-marathons, and a functional upgrade from the "forever grind" of the old ARP-style missions.

TL;DR: Yamamoto is just taking the place of the marathon and mini-marathon missions, so it makes sense.

I would add that by spacing it out it allows us to focus on different things more often...weekend events, different ships & missions......If was simple gluttony and all missions were available up front many of us would be done and complaining that there isn't anything to do...

I wouldn't mind the addition of tier 7 as many more premiums come into play and more credit making opportunities. But am very happy with the campaigns WG does keeps the interest up.

I'd like some campaigns that you can do in lower tiers, besides Science of Victory. T7 is pretty much my skill cap in PvE and T6 in PvP. I have some T8s, but don't take them out much. My DD play, at any tier, in PvP is a disaster

Ok, I was out of the game for a couple of months and only got back about three weeks ago but what is this all about?

Time-gated content is nothing new. Love, hate, or indifferent, it's there to stop you from blazing through the content and then having nothing to work on. Whether you're okay with that or not is up to you, but I really have no opinion either way. I don't typically get to play enough lately to finish one part before the next releases anyway.

It's given me motivation to get my CAs, CVs, and DDs higher tiered in order to complete at least some of the missions that have very enticing rewards. Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto will be addded to my fleet soon enough, although still debating on whether or not speccing him for BBs in the best idea since my CAs do well also and their may be changes coming up that give CAs even more power thanks to BBs potentially getting harassed by Deep Water Torps and AP Bombs from the Zeplin plus the rising DD numbers I may have to use the Admiral on my DD hunting CAs.

Lol I do hear an occasion player complain that I am not giving them AA escort thanks to the fact I only spec enough AA on IJN CAs for AA self defense and instead follow more anti ship roles especially against DDs preferably before they can attack the BBs on my team which usually us met with great approval by my teams which outweighs the occasional complainer about AA escort.

My recommendation to you then for you DD play is go the IJN line and play from stealth.  I believe I am better than average in an IJN, but a complete disaster in a gunboat.  The problem being that I can not aim/fire every 3-5 seconds with a 10 second shell travel time while driving a DD, dodging incoming shells, watching the mini map, and then remembering I have torps on top of all that.  With the IJN line I just focus on being a torpedo boat, and use guns to finish off low health enemies, fire from smoke on occasion, and the alpha from IJN DD guns from T6+ is good enough that catching an enemy DD broadside can often be worth blowing conceal for 20 seconds.

Separately, I much prefer the campaign format rather than those month long ARP type missions simply because of the shear number of battles required for us non-unicum players.  Also, I enjoy taking a break to play ships that aren't part of the campaign and can continue my tech tree grinds (like the UK BB line and the GE DD line, which at this point don't factor into the campaign as I am T5 in both).

I tried the IJN DDs, before the split and didn't like them. I came back to them this year and they are growing on me. I still have trouble in PvE doing all the multi-tasking you mentioned in a DD. I'll get there eventually. :)
