Could the NK interdiction operations worked?

the US proposed interdiction operations against NK ships containing petroleum, crude oil, and natural gas. that proposal has since been withdrawn, but on another site the question came up, could the USN today actually effectively enact such a thing?

today, doubtful. the only way would be divert every forward deployed ship to the waters surrounding the korean peninsula and even then the op tempo would be ridiculous. however if we reached into the fleet reserves it could be possible. not many surface combatants are left there as far as im aware, but 5" guns and ASM aren't exactly necessary when talking about threatening a thinned skinned vessel full up with combustible and flammable gasses, so some of the basic transport vessels and other general support ships would honestly be capable of doing the job fairly cheaply.

mk38 mod-any on a platform sitting at the bow, CIWS, chaff, and crew served weapons for a basic defense, and many of those ships already have dedicated aviation facilities that can operate helicopters, those that don't just make it work falklands style. pull crews from the personnel reserves with over 100,000 in the drilling and inactive reserves there are plenty to pick from.

use a tico for CnC of 3-5  Q-ships with a reactivated surface combatant in support and maybe an amphib providing extra helo or even harrier support.

If an international effort were made, with involvement from the Japanese and South Korean forces, closing up the gaps would be much easier (even more so if we had some European help too). Of course, all of that effort would mean nothing if China continues to trade with North Korea by land.

You blockade ports, not oceans.

The problem won't stem from being able to block trade with NK by sea, it will stem from the massive conventional weaponry aimed at SK. We can not defend agains't a full out attack launched all at once agains't millions.

I truly believe, that if we tighten the noose around a certain crazy minion in the North, he will give the order.
