I pretty much don't do cruisers on the Live server, but I played the radar Minotaur in PTS, and it felt pretty legit, even for a mediocre cruiser captain like myself.

Doesn't seem like it would farm damage as well as a smoke Minotaur, but the meta was asking for it... just sail up next to one of the many smoked Minotaurs or DDs and #whatiscounterplay.

Anyone actually run this for real? I feel like it'd be a more viable mainstream build if our queue wasn't chock full of BBs all the time :Smile_sceptic:

If you can bring a Gearing or another Mino with smoke, then yes. Yuro demonstrates that here:

Yeah, Yuro's vid was partly what prompted me to give it a try. He makes it sound like a really fringe build though, that's why I'm curious to see if anyone actually runs it.

Currently at the Neptune, but thanks to Yuro I play it with radar. It is way more fun thn smoke.

I still hate it that he stopped. I find the other YouTubers boring :(

Like the others said, he didn't stop, he started streaming. Here is his first highlight reel from streaming:

With the current meta, I'd go with smoke. The RN CLs need that safety blanket, radar puts you more at risk of dying.

I can see radar mino being possible if the islands are aligned just right... but otherwise, it's usually better to stay in the open and smoke up and allow the friendly DDs to spot the red DDs.

The guns are very deadly inside of 10km against DDs, so long as they go broadside.

I enjoyed the RN cruisers with smoke leading up to the Minotaur but did not find the play style with smoke equipped at tier 10 enjoyable. I saw Yuro's video and decided to give it a go since it was sitting in my port unplayed for the most part. I am a cruiser player and my preferred play style is to rush up to some cover near a cap with the DDs to support early game and then find spots to ***trigger warning*** invis-a -fire from or bully other ships with your hydro, heal, radar, torpedoes and 10 x 152 guns with a 3.2 second reload. The Minotaur with radar has felt so much more dynamic and fun. It is one of those ships for me that makes me laugh due to some of the ridiculous things it can do.

All that being said, I could not recommend spending all the time and resources on getting it if you are looking for a versatile or forgiving tier 10 cruiser.

So any specifics on the range and duration? Radar + hydro would turn the Mino into a short range version of the DM. The problem is that you don't live long in short range engagements. The ship, you killed close up, his buddies further away will.

I see a trend for the devs to force RU style death matches here.

Full Stealth Build Minotaur 8.9km detection range

Hydro for 100 seconds

Ship detection 4.92km

Torp detection 3.42km

Radar (replaces Smoke)

Ship detectioin 9.9km for 40seconds

Worthless tin can armor either way, no smoke?  No island cover?  You're dead.

Radar Mino in division with Fletcher or Gearing => [edited] TIME!!!

However, even then your division mate needs to be really good as well.

Well, I found a map where the radar Mino is an epic fail. Epicenter. the minute you open up is when you die quickly.
