Suggestions for smoke changes

I feel that the smoke change hit ships relying on smoke much too hard, RNCL chiefly but also KMDD who in the mid tiers rely on their short range hydro to counter enemy DDs. The window between max hydro range and smoke spotting range means the window in which they can do their big party trick is MUCH too narrow.

I suggest two changes that might help:

-Have the smoke spotting rules only apply to ships sitting in the smoke of others. This means that those ships that need their smoke to be effective can still do their stuff.

-Have different rules for light and heavy cruisers. The current 5.9km might be quite harsh on RNCL in particular. So for example make light  cruisers (approx 6 inch gunned) have 5km spotting value in smoke and heavy cruisers (approx 8 inch guns and upwards) have it at 7km.

One or both changes would take the sting out of the smoke changes for those that are hardest hit yet still adequately limits an entire team trying to hide in smoke.

They already stated the detection range will vary based on gun caliber, thereby doing exactly as you stated here. Reading is fundamental.

The thing is, KM DDs have a role to root out DDs from smoke. All DDs firing in smoke are still well under the max detection of hydro, so their role is still safe.

1). They already planned this, that's why RN CLs are so much stealthier in smoke than other ships, as well as DDs.

2). There already is a distinction. The detection in smoke is based of concealment value, and gun caliber. Thus, heavy cruisers are already treated differently.

The smoke changes will be in the 6.11 PT so it would be a good idea for anyone interested in this to play at least a few matches there to see how the changes will impact them.

Right but reading about the changes and actually experiencing them are two different things.

Fair enough. Knowing the baseline is a good thing though.

True dat @Doomlock (still love the new Avatar btw) In fact this change only really affect the classes other than DD who weren't supposed to use smoke in the first place (despite what certain people may say). In fact i did the math and the RN CL's (including the Perth) have the smallest bloom of all cruisers (the only exception being the Flint and Atlanta due to their DD caliber guns). So is it a nerf? yes but not a major one. Players will just do what you need to do when this happens Learn Adapt and Overcome.
