Greetings all,

This is epic! Brand new picture posted today...

Image may contain: cloud, sky, outdoor and water

Does anyone know what this is?!?!

This is the destruction of the Submarine X-5 by Tirpitz!! Previously no photo's existed of Tirpitz under attack by the X-craft submarines! Gun smoke and shell splashes can be seen from Tirpitz's secondary battery. The crew also threw hand-grenades at the submarines. Two of the X-craft were sunk by action by the Tirpitz.

This is a very significant photograph for any big history buff!

Besides scare the British crapless to resort to such tactics in the first place? That's a very good view of the catapult deck, must be from the starboard side...

I figured you wouldn't mind if I shared some of my projects...60a4ddafa49289085f444566d90e46d6.thumb.jpg.81d486558fc55a0f7c74dc2a3f231ebb.jpg

Seeing as how you're a huge Tirpitz fan.

Now the real question is... Is the Tirpitz the scale equivalent of 8.5 feet longer than the Bismarck?

According to the box, the Tirpitz is 71.7cm and the Bismarck is 71.8cm. Are you sure the Bismarck was 8.5 feet shorter with the clipper bow or as launched with a stem bow?

Tirpitz is longer with the bow. Iirc, Tirpitz was the only major German ship launched with an Atlantic bow.

Positive. As launched Bismarck's length overall was 245m, with the new bow she measured 251m. Tirpitz was launched with her Atlantic bow already at an overall length of 253.6m.

I can't help but to imagine two Germans strolling the deck with a tape measure getting accurate measurements, I assume beer and brautwurst would be involved. I also wonder if Tamiya has what you're looking for, however, I will say the Revell kits are a lot more reliable for an out of the box build...

I've built that same Revell Tirpitz that you have. It sits proudly on my dresser. (I have Tirpitz models scattered around both of my apartments... but my wife makes me put most of them in the closet when we have guests over :Smile_sad:)

In either event, Revell's model is still more accurate than WG's, to say nothing of Tamiya!

It's funny, the only reason I started building the Bismarck was for my grandfather, and he is more of a child at heart than I am. You need to condition your wife to be more like my grandmother and just leave your toys everywhere!

I am considering doing a Tamiya build, they're a lot cheaper and I have this silly idea in my head for a what if both sisters survived the war...
