Suggestion for a new quick command

I'm sure many dd players have encountered this situation before, having to launch torps but are unable to do so without risking hitting their own friendlies, and typing it out in chat to warn them might be too time consuming, especially in a heated engagement . Therefore, i suggest implementing a quick command to inform your allies that you intend to launch your torps, giving them ample warning to look out for them

E.g : " (player name)! Clear my torpedo line of fire/Launching torpedoes!".

Seems a bit unneeded. DDs are maneuverable enough to get themselves in a good torpedo launching position. If another DD is in front of you just slow down/speed up/steer to quickly get into a good position. If a CA/BB is in front of you they can't make it out of the way fast enough to clear your lane no matter how many commands you send them unless they are going fast/full speed already in which case you can deccelerate and open up a line of fire yourself.

Can I suggest a quick command that tells you not to fire directly into the path of friendly ships?

E.G: "(player name)!  Don't fire at me you jack [edited]!"

Can I suggest a quick command that sends people that want to launch torps from behind friendly ships to a tutorial about why that's a stupid idea?

No. Not only would this be spammed so to speak, but it would only lead to, "Well I told you to get out of the way! Not my problem you got hit. Why am I punished when I told him to move?" Etc.

We already have that.. it's F56 and it turns your ship Pink so that for the next few games everyone knows that you need watching.

The thought is weak with this one.  :Smile_facepalm:

I actually like it, but I see the issue raised by other posters (ie, not my fault, I messaged).

Any suggestions about how to have the warning but still overcome that issue?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but wasn't there an anti spam measure implemented very recently?

Just don't launch behind someone.  Just say no

Sometimes, you have to launch torpedoes danger close to your teammates. E.g " teammate not goin directly into your torp patch, but may do so if he changes course". Therefore, having a quick way to warn them not to do so would be useful.

I see your point - and understand the frustration - but I doubt this would help deal with team damage. I don't think many people pay attention to those messages anyway, and it would likely be a distraction as the target player would need to shift attention to the DD behind them rather than the evil reds trying to sink them.

As others have said, it would just lead to a way to justify launching torps behind greens and shifting blame.

Other than the spam/excuse issue already mentioned, the warning doesn't really give the recipient guidance on what to do.  For example, I get the message to clear torpedo line.  What line?  I have to find where you are...and who you are targeting...and what lead you are giving.  And then have to determine if I should keep going...slow down...speed up...turn right/left.  All of that mental gymnastics while I'm in the middle of a furball with multiple enemies.   This simply will not work in any incarnation.

It is the SHOOTER that has all the SA information.  Target.  Intervening friendlies and their vector.  The torp vector.  The general guiding principle applies...don't shoot if a friendly could get hit.  There are risk/reward exceptions.

For example, I was in my BB in a massive/crazy short range slugging match.  I had DD support...torps everywhere.  I got hit by a friendly torp.  But those torps (in aggregate) pulled my butt out of the fire by wrecking the enemy BBs.  DD captain apologized for the friendly hit...but I was very happy he fired.  Risk/Reward.  He made a good decision, even with the friendly hit.

That is actually a good point of contention, gonna find a solution to that issue.

Every once in a while my risk reward analysis tells my to shoot.  For example, a week or so ago I'm in a cruiser supporting a DD taking a flag.  Enemy DD hiding in smoke at other end of flag.  My DD has pulled ahead of me on a parallel course.  I decide to launch torps across the flag into the enemy smoke, reasoning that the friendly DD is already ahead of me and gaining, and my torps even at launch are safely behind him.  What happens?  My friendly DD immediately makes a 180 degree turn an intercepts my torps.  Pink status for Spoon.

I just won't do it anymore.  Guns only unless no friendlies are there.  Period.

On the contrary. You never have to press your left mouse button. The choice to do so is always under your control.

As long as you fire your torps from the leading edge of your team, you will never need to "warn" your team that you have put one of them in danger.

There is no need to play the craven. Its only a game of pixels.
