USS Constitution.  Old Ironsides. Never lost a fight and blew the living sh#t out of her opponents. Beautiful ship and so representative of the big 44 gun Frigates we built before the War of 1812.  Innovative. They were actually a new class and gave the Brits all they wanted.

The Albemarle Class Ironclads, Albemarle and Neuse. Those ships were the epitome of casemate ironclads, tough, well armed and very maneuverable. Neuse never engaged in battle. Albemarle was in 2, one where she was outnumbered 8 to 1 and Albemarle prevailed. She was sunk at her dock at Plymouth North Carolina in Oct. 1864 by a torpedo boat attack commanded by Lt. William Cushing, USN.

USS Salt Lake City (CA-25).  I like her history, I like her flaws, and they way her crew talked about her.  I like the fact that the USN hated her class, most people call them horrible ships (the design /was/ pretty poor) but when the chips were down, she performed better that most of the cruisers in the fleet.

Probably the USS California BB-44.  I like the design of those battleships before they were modernized and modernized after she was sunk at Pearl Harbor.  What I love most about her is that she and 5 other battleships were at the Battle of Surigao Strait and totally crushed the Japanese Southern Force.  A big "f___ you" to the Japanese fleet.

The Iowa class battleships.  In particular, the USS Missouri.  Why... they are beautiful ships.  If you've ever seen one, you know they are as intimidating as hell.  And they were intimately involved in one of the most important events in history.

If I had to pick just one...

USS William D. Porter

Her record is just so interesting. And hilarious.

No other ship can claim the dubious distinction of having almost accidentally assassinated the President. Twice.

Motor Torpedo Boats in the Solomon Islands. From the time 4 mahogany PT boats attacked two battleships, a couple cruisers, and a bunch of destroyers during the Night of the Battleships at Guadalcanal, till the Japanese left the area, the almost nightly battle between the Tokyo Express and the Mosquito Fleet is as good as it gets.

I would be a PT main if I could. Bulkeley vs Tanaka. Good stuff.

The USS Pennsylvania BB-38.

Why? Those smexy tri-pod masts for one. <3 Also, as a native PA resident, she represents my home state. :)

Hard for me choose one... I'd say the USS California BB-44 because it's named after my home state... and she's quite the looker that's for sure.

For the looks I'd have to go with the tall wooden ships. I was on the Victory and it's a thing you can grasp on a human level. It's a big ship, but you can understand the limits of it. The only other ship I was on in person, the Belfast, was a virtual labyrinth. Unless you are on deck or very familiar with it you'd get lost.

For the story I'd have to go with SMS Emden. Epic history with some tragedy and feel-good twist at the end.
