8 fires

I have to start 8 fires in one battle with a CL.  I need help with a strategy to do that.  I start 3-4 fires and then find myself being focus fired and sunk.  I am cruising along the engagement line like we did in T1 CL random battles when we first began instead of charging straight ahead.

Also, have a few questions.

1.  Can I start a new fire on a ship already on fire?

2.  Which of the new UK BBs burn the easiest?

3.  Is random or coop the best choice to complete this task?

Yes. There are 4 places that a fire can be set on a ship. Bow, 2 superstructure, and stern. There is a captain skill that only allows 1 fire on the superstructure. You cannot set another fire on a area already on fire. shift your aim to hit non-burning areas.

Don't know on the BBs

I'd say Random, the bots die in Coop too quick. However, if the mission can be down in scenarios, I generally get a lot of fires there.

As for the focus, engage, shoot someone up, then when they start noticing, disengage, stealth up, reposition, and then repeat. Easy in theory, but not so much in practice.

Good Luck, just don't try it in an RN CL:Smile_teethhappy:

Stay back, you can't set 8 fires if you're dead. drop some fires, find a new target, get them burning.

All RNG though, could not get more than 7 fires in the Budy yesterday, first two today were 12 and 16.

Play Russian or IJN cruiser aim guns double click left mouse button fire started pretty much. Try to aim at different ships after you have 1 going sometimes I can get 3 or 4 ships burning at once and after fire is lit on one ship it is harder to light another on it cause of fire limits. I used my Atago so it was pretty easy to finish

I just finished doing the 5 fire thingy, this is one task you can't do alone and it takes other ships to take the heat:Smile_ohmy:so to speak because your hiding behind them:Smile_sceptic:shooting at BBs, you can start a fire on a BB on fire but not in the same location, I believe they reduced it from 4 to 3 fires so shoot at a different location

I would thing co-op would be best...Botts are not known for smarts

not sure what U.K. BBs burn best , fly fire flags and keep on shooting HE :cap_rambo:

I get a lot of zero damage fires when taking pot shots at DD's.

I have yet to undertake the CL mission. I just did get to the 30 k damage with torps. Then, I had an unfinished CV mission.

I think I am being too aggressive.  That is a problem I work on all the time.  I will try 5 random and then 5 coop.  See which gets the most fires.  I took a few shots a nuisance DD today and set a fire.  I rarely hit a DD, just scare them away.  I am driving the Phoenix because it is fast and agile.  That should give me an advantage.

Thanks for all the advice.  You are a great bunch of people on this forum.  Always willing to help.

Tier 6 Premium Molotov is an amazing fire starter. The downside is you get up-tiered to tier 8 a lot. I also find it has a GIANT "shoot me" above it but with fire flags and DE captain skill you can get those fires started pretty quick!

That is usually my problem as well. You have to force yourself to stay back and shoot at range, constantly changing targets.

It takes your mind off of winning when working on these missions. I got 11 fires in Murmansk (with DE and IFHE before the nerf...) netting about 120k damage, no kills, no win. I would have played much differently had I not been focused on the mission.

Good luck. You will make it.

1) You can start a fire in a location that isn't burning and which hasn't reached the maximum burn damage.

2) All of them

3) Co-op ends too quickly

4) I did it with the Algerie but the Cleveland would be a good choice also.

I did it with the T4 French cruiser.

You should never be up at the front where you can be focused by multiple ships. Once you set a ship on fire quickly focus on another ship in range to start another fire. I find it quicker (RNG depending) to start fires on ships that aren't burning. Then I rotate between those ships trying to start more fires.

If you have DDs or BBs between you and those ships you will not be focused as those classes have to be dealt with first by the enemy. If not, then you should be retreating and weaving while trying to deliver those HE rounds over & over.

This!! RU cruiser fire fast (Cleveland is not a bad choice either). IJN Cruisers are nice fire starters too. I used Takao and almost every salvo on a ship that wasn't on fire was a fire.

That is good on paper but the match I got my 8, actually I got 11, fires with 72k damage we had no DD's or CV's to scout so I ran into a hornets nest. I drove like a drunk while spitting fire and torpedoes badly burning a Kongo and an Iron Duke along with sinking a Scharnhorst. At the point when I went down the match was all but over in favor of the enemy but amazingly the enemy grabbed defeat out of the jaws of victory and we won. All in all a great way to finish that mission.

I DID IT ! ! ! ! !

One fire was a lucky hit on a DD that I was firing at just to get it to turn around.  The others I kept ships between myself and the targets.

Thanks for all the input.  Me having patience is what finally made it happen.

I chain-fired the guns on the Cleveland against a North Carolina today and got 3, yes 3, fires on one salvo. Helped me to get the 8 fires right off. Now, it's to co-op and BB's.

I was driving the Texas yesterday in coop.  I knew I was having a good game.  I glanced at the score and I had 58k just as the ship I was burning sunk.  There was one ship left, a CV.  It was on the other side of the map and Texas is slow.  I got there just in time to fire my guns twice and went barely over 60k.  I fired HE at everything.  Fire is your friend in this game.  Some games fire is as much of the damage as shells.  Good luck with your BB.

Just can't bring myself to the BB mission. I just don't like BB play at all. Makes me wonder why I worked to get the British ones.

I felt the same way about the BB mission.  Then I remembered grinding through ships I didn't like to get to the next ship.  But, its a game and if you don't like BB then don't play them.  Have FUN ! ! ! ! !

Unless it's a Belfast. I set 15 fires in my Belfast to complete this mission (great battle with lots of BB's).

Its nice to see that so many of us took on difficult missions and WON.  This is a great forum with great people.

I did it with Kuma after about 3 tries in Co-op.

I'm a RNCL (and CV) player so I didn't actually have any cruiser that start fires.

Remember to bring flags and a captain with Demo expert, if possible.

Little late to the party (thread) but one tactic I didn't see mentioned is to change targets often. When you (or your team) get a couple of fires going on a target, your chance to start a new one is down by 50% (unless you are REALLY good at placing your shots in the non-burning zones). Find a new target and try to flame them until the original target uses his DC, then light him up again. This generally goes against the axiom that everyone focus fires a target until it is dead, then moves to the next. Even if you are not trying for a high number of fires, if your main damage source is the fire, not the shell, continuing to blast a blazing target is probably a poor use of your damage potential.
