I just had an epiphany

I never did post an introduction so here it is, belated, some 5000+ games into this.

Brief background, I was a collector/player in WoT for years and finally got saturated with the vibe there. I had had my eye on WoWs developing and knew ships would seriously be my cup of tea. The bracing sea air on the face as opposed to the fetid sweaty insides of a tank, right? One last acrimonious teamchat toxicity in WoT and I announced "You know what guys? I've had enough, I'm off to join the navy, see the world!" And that was that, I never went back.

I started with the Imperial Japanese navy and grew from there into the Russians and so on. I'll get to you Yanks eventually.

All sorts of kerfuffles in here and developments but this community clearly hangs together far better, in spite of the frequent ne'er do wells, whiners, trolls and malcontents. It feels better. Much better. And although I have had some serious frustrations, mostly with MM and being sloughed into unwinnable matches that burn up my time and my temper... I had an epiphany this weekend and here it is:

I love this game and most of the dedicated people I see playing in here, from the salty to the sublime, hats off to ye, see you on the pixel seas in whatever ship grabs my fancy, and yours.

And here's a pointless (or is it) but amusing poem to mark this epiphany with:

The Frivolous Cake - Poem by Mervyn Peake

A freckled and frivolous cake there was
That sailed upon a pointless sea,
Or any lugubrious lake there was
In a manner emphatic and free.
How jointlessly, and how jointlessly
The frivolous cake sailed by
On the waves of the ocean that pointlessly
Threw fish to the lilac sky.

Oh, plenty and plenty of hake there was
Of a glory beyond compare,
And every conceivable make there was
Was tossed through the lilac air.

Up the smooth billows and over the crests
Of the cumbersome combers flew
The frivolous cake with a knife in the wake
Of herself and her curranty crew.
Like a swordfish grim it would bounce and skim
(This dinner knife fierce and blue) ,
And the frivolous cake was filled to the brim
With the fun of her curranty crew.

Oh, plenty and plenty of hake there was
Of a glory beyond compare -
And every conceivable make there was
Was tossed through the lilac air.

Around the shores of the Elegant Isles
Where the cat-fish bask and purr
And lick their paws with adhesive smiles
And wriggle their fins of fur,
They fly and fly 'neath the lilac sky -
The frivolous cake, and the knife
Who winketh his glamorous indigo eye
In the wake of his future wife.

The crumbs blow free down the pointless sea
To the beat of a cakey heart
And the sensitive steel of the knife can feel
That love is a race apart
In the speed of the lingering light are blown
The crumbs to the hake above,
And the tropical air vibrates to the drone
Of a cake in the throes of love.

Mervyn Peake

WG just does not seem to get how the toxic crap in WoT drives new players away.  Both in chat and in that forum. WoT has been around quite awhile now and ya got some players that treat new players like the scum of the earth. It's weird over there. Some of have 40,000 + games and it's become pay to play/win. Sad.  My 2 cents.

If that ever happened to ships, I'd be crushed.  This game is single handedly responsible for my return to PC gaming.  I haven't enjoyed gaming this much since I was a kid despite having owned many consoles and PC's since. It keeps me coming back.  I experienced the worst of our community during ranked but being a bit older, I thInk I'm just less tolerant of it and I'm also easy to provoke (I.e. I'm a salty dude).

Anyways, belated welcome to a belated intro.  I'm glad folks like you are part of the community.

Perfect sentiment for this game!  Hope you're right and most of the salt in the game stays in the ocean!

(Seen you in game and played w/ you on your team a few times - I think we won most of them - o7)

Not exactly someone who really understands poetry; but it does seem very well written. +1 to you, good Sir.

Ahoy there, fair seas and following winds to you.

Thank you. I've seen both of you active on the forums. Godspeed.
