Earning credits in a DD

I'm putting this in general discussion because I'm curious to know if it's just a Japanese DD issue or if it's like this across the board.  There really needs to be some serious reworking of how ships earn credits in this game.  I'm getting quite frustrated by playing an excellent DD game in which I cap, spot, smoke up other ships, and deny space to enemy ships and then end up losing 50k credits because, well gosh, I didn't do 200k damage.  To be honest, that's pure Bee Ess.  Credits shouldn't only go to DPS boats. Gameplay is very much advantage against destroyers and torps what with hydro, radar, and aircraft being able to spot your torps well in time for every BB in the game to dodge them (not radar of course, but then you just get killed so some result)  I was excited to get to T10 because it was a goal I'd been working towards for a long time.  But now that I'm here, I just park my Shima because I can't afford to sail it if I ever want to make credits.  I can only imagine what it must be like for people without premium.

T10 is notorious for costing more to play than you earn.  Numerous threads about the economics and why-and-wherefores of that situation.  I bet you will get a lot of replies that either mention the need to play lower tier (or Missouri) to fund your T10 play, buy the permanent camo, or the ever popular "Git gud."  In my case, a combination of finally getting the Missouri a month ago and the amount I play T6-8 (and a bit better skills) have made it where I don't think much about my silver situation.  The Missouri even earns silver in PvE!

Disclaimer:  I only have a couple of T9s and no T10s.  Not really rushing or eager to own an T10s.

I agree with above post.

High tier battles won't really pay the rent, even if you run premium. T5-8 is prolly the zone you need to stick to. I have 3 T10 DDs and I've played less than 10 games in all of them because it's just not worth it to me.

Signals/camos do help a lot.

Credits are based on your XP, not damage. And t10 is not a good tier for credits for any ship.

I myself have several T8s, one T9, and one T10. They can be difficult at times to keep a profit, due to the high service cost.

A few tips for destroyer play for earning credits.

1: Check to see if you can drop a premium consumable. These are real money sinks and, unless you are really good and have great games all the time, you might want to see of you can drop one.

2: Capping. Capping is life for a destroyer. Getting a solo cap is best but assisted caps are great too. You know what else? Cap defense. Those also bring in some good payouts.

3: Shooting the right targets. It is so nice to get high damage numbers and have a 100, 150, 200k damage game. But you can still have a great game and only do less than 100k. Damage to credit/XP ratio is by percentage damage. By that I mean, killing a full health destroyer counts the same as if you killed a full health battleship. So killing DDs, even though they yield gar less damage, give the same rewards as doing more damage to a battleship.

4: Signal flags. This is another way of reducing the service cost, and raising credit gains. The Zulu flag, offers 20% additional credits, on top of what you make in a match. The Wyvern flag gives 50% to the credits you make, though it is a rarer flag. The India Bravo Terrathree flag takes 10% of a ship's service cost after the battle is over.

5: Camouflage. The permanent camouflage offers some great bonuses to not only service cost, but also credit earning. For T7 ships the permanent camo offers a 5% service cost reduction; at T8 it is a 10% deduction; at T9 it is a 20% deduction; and at T10 it is a 50% reduction, as well as a 20% increase in credit earning.

Other promotional camouflages offer credit earning bonuses as well, giving either a 20% bonus to credits, or a 50% bonus.

I hope that was a good run down of ways you can minimize service cost, and maximize credit gains.

Fair winds and following seas captain! :Smile_honoring:

Thanks for the feedback everyone.  One comment I think I'd like more information about, is the idea that credits are exp based not damage based?  Maybe base exp not exp after modifiers?  Because I've had 5k exp games and have only earned like 25k credits before.

I agree with not running premium consumables.  The only one I can really afford to run is the premium repair consumable.  In the end I get what everyone is saying about T10 being your hobby not your job, but when you're trying to earn credits to pick up another ship, it's just a little boring that in 2 hours of playing, I can really only play my T10 ship half a dozen times if I want to be making any progress at all.

Do any of the T8 - T10 IJN destroyers get a permanent camo?

I think that all t6 + ships have a permanent cammo. The bonus they receive can change a bit from tier to tier. If you chek http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Camouflage#Permanent_Camouflage, is the world of warships wiki page about camos, the bonus and cost of all permanent camos are there.

-3% to detectability range.

+4% to maximum dispersion of shells fired by the enemy at your ship.

-50% to the cost of ship's post-battle service.

+20% credits earned in the battle.

+100% to experience earned in the battle.

This are the bonus for t10 perma cammo. It cost 5000 doubloons.
