I want to know your opinions about Belfast and Kutuzov and some tips.

  1. Do you consider Belfast and Kutuzov fair ships?
  2. Is their real purpose to counter CAs so hard?  (My Belfast can melt CAs with IFHE, excellent alpha, and good fire chance)
  3. What can I do in my radar-less CAs to counter them? (I need some ideas)
  4. Should I stop engaging these ships so often in my radar-less CAs?

1) No

2) Belfast counters pretty much everything except , Kutuzow swaps out Destroyers for Carriers

3) Spam Torpedoes into the smoke, alternatively try to hit them in the smoke. If that fails, break off Detection so they can't fire at you

4) You can't really pic the engagements unless you run away, which you shouldn't do

Ripple fire turret by turret into the smoke if you must. If you have a spotter plane, that can be useful. Practice using it in the training room to hit ships in smoke.

Launch torps. You dont necessarily need to hit them, just move them out. A Kutuzov in the open is a dead Kutuzov and a Belfast in the open is just one-shot practice for a BB.

You can charge the Belfast because it doesnt have torps. But I can't imagine how you'd survive that. Belfast is deadly even bow on.

Kutuzov torps are very dangerous. Dont charge a smoked Kutu.

If none of these options are available, just run. No shame in choosing your ground.

Belfast is ridiculous and should have been banned instead of Konig Albert.

Kutuzov... who's that?

1. Belfast yes, It's powerful in the right hands, not invincible. Kutuzov, I'd have to actually have one but I lean toward no.

2. Belfast doesn't feel like a CA counter, no more than her sister anyway. I've not got a dedicated captain so can't speak to IFHE devastation but seems more a DD hunter/killer. I'd still say BB's are the real CA counter, or a CV high enough tier to not have it's planes wasted before they attack.

3. Kutuzov - trace fire and/or run. Belfast, trace fire back, most are dumb and sit still while full  auto spam so you can delete them in a salvo or two. The small smokescreen they set also afford very little moving room. It lacks repair and torps like it's cousin as well, meaning that unless he has a bunch of friends, charge him, and when you think your getting close pop Hydro to spot him. Cause he can't torp your charge, and heal any damage you do do. If you have torps and are in range, use them to flush him out, hit him, or force an angle change so he can't fire all 4 batteries. If your scoring lots of overpens and firing AP, switch to HE and return the favour, Belfast has paper armour and HE can wreak havoc on it similar to if you fire HE at a DD. If he has friends though, try to back off and find cover till it's Radar is down and smoke dissipates, after that, it's basically a slightly up gunned USN DD that's bigger and has a citadel with no torp option.

4. It may just be that you need to pick better times to engage them and dictate the battle to your terms, not theirs.

Belfast being the one I have experience both against and now with,  it really is Edi trading torps it can stealth fire (if you build to stealth) for HE and fire setting, and repairs for a Radar. The broken nature of radar can make it seem more powerful than it is, same can be said of the fact that fires are a tad out of control and need a small nerf. That one, learning how to shoot in smoke (useful for anything hiding in DD smoke as well) or have torps you can ruin it's day. Russian Cruiser, eh.... that one may be just a bit op. Least fighting it, again, haven't played it to know strengths/weaknesses, and get a feel of it.

For Kutuzov - Close the distance, if you can, to engage. The fantastic gun arcs on the Kutuzov make dueling at long range to his advantage (Unless you are in a Moskva or Zao).  One word of warning though as Kutuzov has smoke so you need to ensure that you cannot be spotted by another ship or he will sit in smoke and spam HE all day long.

For Belfast, try to time his radar, once it runs out push in.

For both

- practice firing with a spotter plane. As they both fire fast it is surprisingly easy to lob shells into smoke and score hits.

- Both ships are lightly armoured so AP works even against when they are at an angle

- Patience rewards you as they are vulnerable when moving about. So wait out smoke if you can

- I only have CAs without spotter plane. Only Russian CLs have it.

- Believe it or not, German AP sucks against even slightly angled Kutuzovs.

- Until smoke disappears, I have been already burned to the waterline, because CAs have such High detection range. So... :(
