Albany the almighty.

In the year I've been playing, I've seen a lot of negativity aimed at Albany's performance. I have her now, and I don't get it. To me, she's a harder to find, less gunned version of St Louis. She hits HARD, especially so given she's at T2. I cit'd a Dresden and Kolberg through the bow with her. I'm reasonably sure that's never happened before. And lord is she easy to hide with. Just like with San Lewy, I go toe to toe with BB's, and win while taking little damage.

 

She's a beast, in my opinion. Why the hate?

I've never enjoyed those Cruisers other than thinking they look kind of pretty. Like a cruiser liner or some steam punk version of a real battle... uh ship. When we had them in beta they were teeeeeerible. May be I just don't enjoy Tier 4 and below enough, but ships like the Chester, Myogi, Kawachi, and others don't exactly endear you to the tiers. lol.

It's a holdover from her unbuffed state. She used to be slower with much less range. When the buffed her she became the beast that she is today.

Didin't she used to have only a 6km gun range? I may be wrong, but it was horrible, now it's fine. Earlier in the game she was detected before she could fire.

when she was first released, way back in CBT, she was a pretty good ship; not op but very playable and competitive.

when CBT shifted into OBT, she got nerfed hard and had really pathetic gun range, spotting range, speed, etc.

her colors were nerf bat black and blue.

since she's enjoyed a couple of (minor) buffs and she is playable, though not so much as she was in  CBT.

end of story, now go to sleep and dream of battleships sailing in torpedo free waters under skies with no planes in them

See, buffed aka powercreep so WG can resell it.

Thing is, T2 often has a small population on the server so this is a blatant Seal Club that will turn off new players getting into WoWS.

WG doesn't seem to learn, do they? Just squeeze more pesos & screw the beginners game. Brilliant.

She was released with the low speed and gun range, she was never nerfed (and was given as a reward ship). She was the buffed to what she is today, which is awsome and fun.

Albany has had her ups and downs. She was originally handed out in open beta with 8.something range. Then she got a range buff during the brief time AFT affected 152mm guns. When that got reverted they buffed her range.

She was buffed a long time ago. The way she is now is how she has been since OBT. She was originally given back in CBT as a reward ship.

She actually had 6Km range unbuffed and was slower. they buffed her during the OBT.

One would think that with that much time since OBT, though, people would have realized she's actually a really good ship, wouldn't they? o.O Though, my guess is many haven't played her, so they don't know firsthand.

Yeah.  Her gun range used to be abysmal, which really hampered performance.  Subsequent buffs have made her easier to use.

 

She's still more of a collector item than anything else, though.  A decently piloted Dresden/Emden/Chikuma will still ruin her day.

I refer to my Emden as my 'MachineGun Kelly', lol. Got it as a reward & it is a 'keeper' for me.

Alot of the hate towards the Albany stems from her Pre-buff days when it was just terrible.

Actually, sorry to spoil your negativity parade bro, but you could submit a ticket to customer service and ask to get her back.  Just have to have the credits available on your account that they paid you when you sold it.  I think they'll allow you to do that twice a year.

A lot of the hate comes from the early days when Albany only had a 6km gun range, a 8km spotting range, and a detection range of 9km.  Playing her then was difficult, to say the least, and this is back when Tier IIs could see Tier IVs.

 

Albanies were handed out to anyone who participated in Open Beta.  I lost count on how many threads were started with the OPs bragging about how quickly they sold theirs for that one port slot, making fun/criticizing anyone who didn't, etc.

 

Kept mine, and glad I did.  Received several significant (and very badly needed) buffs over time and now she is a very capable and even dangerous Tier II cruiser, especially with a multi-point captain on board with relevant skills.

 

Very pretty boat, too.

Just because I could, I just went and bought one- then slapped my St Louis captain in it and hit play.  No flags no nothing but the camo it comes with.

  3 kills, including the enemy Bellerophon.  Nice guns on this lil beast!  It's gorgeous, too- I love the look of protected cruisers!  Love the Great White Fleet camo, too.

 I think my favorite kill was seeing the red V-25 coming past the island I was behind.  So, I stopped and waited.  When he cleared Blam- BOOM!

Having fun playing her.  Helps that I live in Albany, so having the home-town boat is a nice touch.  I'll probably not take her out overly often, but she's pretty and will peck a BB to death slowly.
