Best way to progress the game?: Single Line or Multi Line/Multi Class

I want to speed up the progress through the game.

My current style is to play multi line of class from multi nation.

With this tactic, I can make good use of daily bonus exp for multiple ships and I managed to grind upto tier 7 ships for most of the nations.

But I know that Tier 10 ships get a lot more exp bonus and If I focus on getting 19 pt captain, I know I can use him to get elite xp to train other captains. And I know tier 10 ships have most beneficial prem camo.

So here is my question, Should I stick to multi class from multiple nation tactic?

or should I stick to one or two line and grind up to tier 10 and get 19pt captain to get elite XPs to boost up grinding of other classes and nations.

(I care about captain levels too, not just ships)

Play what you want.

I had 1 T10 and almost every other line to T7-T9 before i finished them all off.

Try Different lines.  Different Classes.     You may find one you love, or one you don't.

Do alot of reading about how everything exactly works.

This will all save you alot of headache.

Higher tier you go = higher repair costs. So if you haven't learned the ins and outs.. You will have lower Silver profits, with higher repairs.

If you really want to grind lines quickly, grind through 2-4 at a time, assuming you have the credits and the time. This way you can maximize win bonuses and in-game specials. Also if you die in one of your  ships, you can hop in another, something you couldn't do if you were only commited to one line.

Personally, I keep three lines in my grind hopper. A primary, secondary and tertiary. Like right now those are UK BBs, US BBs, and IJN Cruisers.

I play my highest tier UK BB until I sink in a game. Then I exit to port and hop into my highest tier US BB. After that match or if I sink in that, I go back to the UK BB. If both UK and US BBs are still in games, I go to IJN CA.

As for Captains, I just move the Captain I had a the lowest tier ship up with the ships as I progress up the line. You should have at least 12 points by the time you hit T10 that way, usually more especially if you use flags.

If your new, stay low tier for 500 games or so (T6 and below etc)  while learning the game.

thank you for the advice, but I'm not too noob anymore haha.

I already have few tier 8 ships but, I don't play those tier 8 ships because I will be grinding other lower tier ships until most of my ships from different lines/nations get to tier 8.

Then, I will progress to tier 9. but my dilemma is that with this tactic, it simply takes too much time for me to progress up a tier.

And sometimes I even feel little bit boring because all my captains are low point captains because I don't transfer those captains to the new, higher tier ships(because I keep most of the ships I progressed through that gets my interest).

So..should I grind through one line and get at least few tier 10 ships to get 19pt captain and use that captain's elite xp to train other captains at lower tier?

Simplistic look at this would be:

If you're the really competitive type, you'll push down one, max maybe two lines and get them to T10 before bothering with the others.

If you're an explorer or collector type, then you'll play whatever you feel, and probably have all the lines progressing.

Take the above, and season to your personal taste and style.

Me?  I'm an explorer/collector. I've got everything but the brit BBs to T4 or T5, with a few premiums to play with as well.  It's your game to play, not anyone else's.

Also, premiums are great for captain trainers, and to build free xp up so you don't have to play 'stock' ships so much, imo; i.e. I get the modules early on a new ship.

PS: Don't forget to pass your captain down the line.  i.e. if you're working down the US BB line, When you finish South Carolina, transfer that captain and his xp into Wyoming, instead of recruiting a new one.

If you have a few premium ships in the lines your grinding, that will help getting captain's experience (and add a change of pace from the grind if you want)

I think this is one of my problem that I don't move up most of my captains.

I keep most of the ships that I have progressed through if the ship felt any good to me.

And If I keep the ship, I keep the same captain in that ship. Which means, when I move up a tier, I start grinding a new captain.

I want to do this for the future time when I want to play lower tier ships, I still have somewhat decent captain in there.

But my dilemma is whenever I go back to my highest tier, the captain is really low level and I have hard time having fun in them.

I pretty much just play all the ships I want to play that day.

Every now and again, I realize I've got enough XP to move up to the next ship.

I'll focus on some ships during big XP events. Like that big Russian DD thing a month ago... I jumped up 3 tiers in RU DDs.

I've found where I like to play and I just do that.

Multiple lines for multiple reasons.

For starters, if you die quickly it sucks to wait 20 minutes to get your ship back. When I started I though a certain ship at tier ten would be the greatest thing since free ice cream. Turns out I really didn't enjoy the ship and how it played. Also by playing multiple lines and countries you learn much more about each ship what it can and can't do and makes you better against them when you face them.

I started as a one line.  I played nothing but the German Cruisers when Is tarted and didn't touch another ship.  This lasted well until Karlsruhe.  A ship I couldn't stand.  Nice thing about multiple lines is it won't feel like a punishment when you get a ship you just loathe and can't stand.  You can do a few games in the ship you don't like, take a break and play some other ships you DO like.  It's not a fast process though.  I play just about everything and am up to Tier 6 or 9 in just about ever line in the game.  But it took me awhile to get to that point.  Some were easier (Tier 9 German BB's) some were tougher (Stuck on the Pensacola in USN Cruiser line forever)

I always love the "best way to play" threads.  Just play how you like, the way you have the most fun. I like to play across all lines, getting first wins and slowly working my way up the lines, occasionally focusing on a certain ships due to an event or whatever.

Play to have fun, don't make it a job.  Having a goal is nice, but what do you do once you get there?

I rushed to a Des Moines, mostly grinding (badly) my Cleveland and Pensacola (oh, and Atlanta)  and converting XPs.  Got her, and then realized that I hadn't bothered to figure out what I was doing along the way.  It wasn't pretty.

Nowadays, I just relax and cruise up the lines at a leisurely pace, no hurries.  I've found it helps me be more 'successful' as I get to learn and know each ship along the way and play it reasonably well, vs just thrashing around, especially since different navies often have significantly different shell velocities and aiming requirements.

I've decided I'd rather play for enjoyment than blindly rush to this or that and then wonder what the hubbub was about.

However, if efficiency is what you desire, what was mentioned above about picking two lines to focus on with a third for if your current 'grind' ships are locked in combat is probably the best approach, that way you can always keep things moving.

If you want captain experience, a good high tier premium, like Tirpitz or Atago (etc) can also be very helpful for farming captain XP.  That and dragon flags.  Lots of dragon flags...

Good luck!

Have always grinded multiple lines, I get tired of playing the same ship over and over again, like to jump to different lines/classes and take advantage of first win exp daily bonus... good to have different classes of ships to take advantage of mission bonuses or such, so maybe be acitvily grinding one line of each of the classes you are into.

I run two lines. Right now it's the USN CAs and USN BBs. When I get tired of one, I have a different playstyle to go back too. Right now, for example, I'll finish the NC today, research the IA. But I don't have the FXP to unlock B hull and engine, which I want before I play it. So I'll play the cruisers until I get there. I also try to get my first win in the AL and MO, for the credits and XP. My captain drives the NC, MO, AL, and AZ, so he's zipping up toward 17pts now. I also have a few other ships, Cleveland, ARP ships, Warspite, Atlanta, St. Louis. And when I feel like a change, I have options. Once I finish the US, I want to go RU CLs, RN BBs, and maybe IJN CLs. Down the road, I might pick up a DD line, and I do want to learn CVs at some point. Lot's of options.

Basically, I have my targets, and usually I try to set a goal for the day (like today, get the last 10K XP on the NC). But it's a game, so if I stop enjoying things, I switch up. Sometimes even take a break completely for an hour or to. If I'm not enjoying playing, what's the point?

depends on your long term goal.

If it is to get to T10 as fast as possible just play one line. Congratulations you made it.

But did you learn the game? are you the best you could be? did you miss out on a line or style that matches you better?

My personal recommendation would be to relax and play what feels like the most fun. Learn to play DD BB CA and CV that way you know what their trying to do to you and you can effectively counter them. Tier isn't everything. I find T6-T8 battles are almost always more fun than T10 and you often find that the players at the mid tiers are much better with their ships. I started this game thinking I would be a torp throwing DD god. Anyone who even peaks at my stats can tell you that was a fantasy. and my win rate is still recovering 7k games later. Fortunately I woke up and realized that my wins were coming in BB's and so was the fun I have. I now have everything but the Conqueror and I'm working through my Monarch now. And every second I'm doing it I'm grateful that I abandoned DD the single line of ships.

So..should I grind through one line and get at least few tier 10 ships to get 19pt captain and use that captain's elite xp to train other captains at lower tier?

I know what you mean- it took seemingly forever to get the bulk of my lines out of the tier 5/6 hell hole, and into the "fun again" tiers.  THAT felt like a grind, and not a game. lol.

I'd say pick one or two lines at a time and concentrate on those.  If you have any premiums, cycle your best captain through them each day to grind as much captain xp as possible.  Use any and all signals and camos, too.  That's how I boosted out mt first 19 pointer.  Ii  have 4 premium US BB's, so I used them ALL in addition to playing several games a day in the Colorado.  Plus flags, camos etc.  Took a lot of work, but I enjoy CO, and it was worth it in the end.  Now I cycle that captain through CO, AL, and MO to grind elite xp- to boost a captain to go in Iowa.

Until I stopped trying to play every line at once, progress went at a snail's pace...

I also found it helpful to switch between my high tier ships and my lower and mid tier grinders just to break up the monotony of grinding in the same tiers all the time.  That way you don't see the same maps, and the same ships over and over and over.   To ME, tiers 7 and 8 are the most fun to play, and definitely more rewarding than the mid and lower tiers.  None of these ships felt like a grind at all- they were FUN!

Also, don't waste time forcing yourself to play and grind meh lines you don't like so much- that burns you out quickly!  No shame in admitting that x line is likely just not for you, and moving on.

One pleasant side effect of this method:  I have oodles and oodles of credits and free xp- they just keep accumulating!   Colorado was NOT my top tier ship- I did that deliberately to give myself time to GET that 19 pointer, and then produce a good captain BEFORE I ground into Iowa.  ( I love my Colly-rado, will keep playing it, and do not want to start all over again with a lower level captain- thus he is not being moved up.  I'm grooming the 14 pointer on NM for that job, because Nor-Cal is another keeper!)

Bottom line:  focus on one or two lines at a time, and find a ship or two that you really enjoy- and play the hell out of it to boost the captain and keep your "bank" full.

If you play multiple lines simultaneously, you'll have more fun cause you won't burn out on one ship or type of ships.

I did the grind for my first t10 when I got the Gearing. It felt like a grind, and it wasn't much fun.

Since then I haven't played a ship simply to grind to the next one. I play just to play it.

Now I have ten T10s, 27 19pt captains and I still enjoy playing the game.

Always remember this truth.  If it's not fun, do it differently, or step away for a bit.  What you overdid in the last hour may not be so bad after a break.

I have trouble grinding anything, so going slow wasn't a bad thing by doing multiple line.  even with out premium, I've pretty much hit t8-10 in all the lines already and have 8mil xp that I could convert.    I just don't have desire to hit t10 on all the lines.   I find t9 to be  just as good or more fun and I tend to make more money at t9 .      if I had premium account, I would be done even quicker.

This statement is predicated on the assumption that you know the game well enough so that you can do enough in a T10 game to earn more base xp than playing another tier or class. Playing T10 is also unsustainable unless you have at least prem. time and do well consistently. In general I do not recommend rushing up to a T10 on a signal line.

Grind two lines at a time - grinding gets dull...

Grinding two lines means you can swap back and forth and not lose your feel for the vehicle.

As for captains - if you can generate elite exp, do it, the cost to retrain (without gold) is catastrophic, when you get to higher levels of captains and elite exp can mitigate that to some degree.

It also help if you want to keep a ship in the line with a playable captain, you can boost a new captain to 10 points.

Captain management is almost a seperate meta.

Just my .02, but if you doubt my advice, I have something like 24 t10s in WoT... I know about grinding...
