So last game was a 2 cv's on each team game. A Ryujo and a Zuiho on the enemy team.  A Zuiho and myself in a Independence. I know that one must destroy 50% of the enemy aircraft and at least 30 aircraft. I put down 47 planes. 74 aircraft were shot down in all. Looking at the hangar capacity of both enemy cv's. It should be at 60 aircraft total. How do I not get the medal?

Well, I can't say how much it would effect the math, but the planes shot down includes spotter and scout planes.  Assuming a decent amount of BBs and cruisers that's probably another 10-20 planes right there.

Twice I have shot down 62 planes and have seen someone shoot down 70 and not get the Achievement .  The last time I got one I shot down only 50 but it was a 7 vs. 7 team match .

I recently got two of those with my fighter Lexington, both popped at around 50 range.

The floatplane requirement (that doesn't count the ones that go down the drink with the ship) is extremely stupid...and I'll keep saying it as many times as it needs to be.

Yep, spotters and catapult fighters count too. And I'm not sure if if the commander skill that allows you to deploy two catapult fighters also increases the required total(since it doesn't decrease the number of catapult fighter charges you have).

To be honest, I could probably count on one hand, but not more than two, the number of times I received this award before reaching tier VIII and above CVs. You're more likely to get it in rounds with a single CV and no long range AA built ship teammates as that decreases the total required and helps make sure you're the only one on your team getting the plane kills. Using the AS builds on your CVs is another way to help as it gives you more fighter squadrons to control at the same time.

I got one in my Cleveland with 39 total kills. There were two CVs each in that battle. Twice, a combined strike of two attack squadrons accompanied by fighters flew over.

The first was two tb squadrons and two fighter squadrons. Friendly fighters were in that melee. I had twenty-four kills in one DF cycle.

Then two escorted partial db squadrons focused on me. Premium cool down allowed another DF cycle. The ribbon popped up about 35 plane kills.

At least the CVs were coordinating.

The only way I've gotten repeated Clear Skies was in Ranked.  The teams are small and if you f--k up your CV counterpart, you should get Clear Skies.  I was averaging a Clear Skies badge per match with Independence in Ranked.  In Randoms you are looking at large 12 ship teams with lots of catapult aircraft around.  I've gotten 40+ aircraft kills with Belfast and AA Gneisenau and never received Clear Skies.

Clear Sky - In a single battle, destroy more than 50% of enemy aircraft, including floatplanes launched by cruisers and battleships. You must destroy at least 30 aircraft. Can be obtained once per battle.

So....in addition to the CV planes, also gotta get those the BBs and CLs launch.  One of my more recent games in the Saipan I account for 51 plane kills (2v2 cvs) but wasn't awarded the medal because it seemed like every ship had 2 floatplanes up at a time.  lol.

It's 50% of all total enemy hangar capacity. This includes cruisers and battleships.

So a Yamato with spotter plane can use it 8 times meaning there are 16 planes in total assuming the double catapult plane skill is used

It is an incredibly stupid achievement now at high tiers, especially with two campaign tasks requiring it multiple times. It also isn't even part of the "rarer" heroic achievements.

Tier 8+ basically requires a terrible CV feeding you planes mixed with a friendly team that has no clue what AA actually is and surface forces evenly matched so that the game lasts long enough for your feeder to gift the Clear Sky.

Wargaming has refused to fix this for months upon months for unknown reasons.

The way it worked at launch, it was just fine.  Something like an AA Cruiser doing a good job in air defense would get Clear Skies.  Along the way, they screwed the pooch.

Yep pretty much this.  I feel the biggest factor is the incompetent enemy CV...of which they never send planes my way :(
