What's next? Radio Location - 4? Survivability Expert - 3? Adrenaline Rush -2?

Um, torpedo armament? Gneis and Tirp have torps, nothing else. And even then, theyre situational enough not to use 3 points on a 10% faster reload. 

I run a secondary build, and that seems to be the consensus amongst most players. Your core skills are BFT, AFT, Manual Secondary Control, and (IMO) Adrenaline Rush. That's 13 points right there. 

Last Stand is ok if you're paranoid about your engine and rudder but TBH you're not going to lose those often, I'd leave that out. 

I run PM, AR, BFT, AFT, Man Secondary Control, Super (for an extra hydro charge and heal.) That's 17 points and that's the core group of skills for a brawler. 18th and 19th point can go into EM, JOAT, or High Alert; any of those three are good.

Are you talking about DD or BB?

Take this with a grain of salt, because I do OK with my Z-52 but certainly not unicum, but on my Z-52 and Z-23 (my two keepers) I run:

Z-52 -  PT, Last Stand, Adrenaline Rush, BFT, Superintendent (extra hydro, extra smoke), CE. 15 point captain right now so I plan on adding Torp Armament Expert with points 16-18.
Z-23 (I run 150mm guns for lulz so BFT is not applicable) - PT, LS, AR, Super, CE, IFHE (on the 150mms it makes a difference.) Points 17-19 will prob go to Torp Armament Expert.

I'd say go: Priority Target or Preventative Maintenance, Last Stand, Superintendent and Concealment Expert for your first 10 points.

 

After that get Adrenaline Rush and Survivability Expert in either order (probably SE first unless you want that extra DPS) . Then it is totally what you feel like: Torpedo Reload, Demo, BFT, Jack of all Trades or even Radio Location.

7,9,10, yeah

for the T8 I'd go with DE for the eventual IFHE with its 150s, if you plan on using the 150s

Not there yet, but I think it would go

PM/PT + LS + SI +CE

 

for the core skills and then possibly go into

BFT + RL + AR for absolute control over objectives with the 128mm guns

IFHE + DE + AR for engaging larger ships with the 150mm guns

BFT + SE + AR + PM/PT for a generalist build with the 128mm guns (or replace BFT with DE or TAE for a build with the 150mm guns)

I feel you. Had great runs with Z-23 and Z-46 (kept the Z-23, sold Z-46 because I have a glut of t9 boats) but Z-52...I love the boat, I do well in it, I think it's the best t10 'true' DD out there (if you consider Khab is more like a CL). When I have a bad game in Z-52, I lose. When I have a good to great game, my team seems to be 5-10% worse than I can carry. I've never had a ship where my self-evaluation of how well I play in her and my win rate in her are so drastically different.

The German DD's are the ultimate in expression of "nice smoke cloud brah...be a shame if someone Hydro'd you..."

 

Seriously that is where 90% of my kills came from, morons who smoke up...sit in the cloud...and then I bum rush them. A well played German DD is like bringing an MG42 to a knifefight. 

 

With that, you wanna buff two things: ROF and Survivability...whatever makes your guns fire faster, you want it....whatever keeps your stearing working...you want it....

 

Last Stand, Priority Target, Adren Rush, Basic Fire Traning, Advanced Fire, Concealment....Super Intend...those are the skills you NEED. Don't bother with your torps.

I just got Gaede, and am working toward 10th point for CE. (well, was on T-22 anyway)

 

I haven't played it yet, but would I be out to lunch playing it (with the 150s and Sierra Mike signal) similarly to a Russian DD? Is CE worth it, or would I be better off with IFHE? (the captain will only be used on this ship)

CE is pretty much a go-to for German DDs. You want to be able to Stealth Torp and/or out-spot RU DDs and such.

 

As for IFHE, eh...I would say not terribly important. Gaede/Maass are the last so-so GER DDs.

I liked Gaede and Mass. I'm on Z-23 now and I'm really enjoying the ship as well. Using the 150s, which I found success with on the Gaede. Smoke hunting in them is always a great time, kinda like knifefighting 2.0 now that smoke is more plentiful.
