Aside from being battleship-caliber HE to begin with, the British have the German-style 1/4-formula HE instead of the standard 1/6, so they have better penetration from the get-go.

I've not seen any considerable number of broken shells when firing HE in, say..  The Iron Duke.  Therefore, I'd say you'd only be sacrificing fire chance.

It's basically redundant against BB, but trollish against cruisers.

You get /4 divider, which means a 381mm HE shell will do 95mm of penetration (overkill, even against German deck armor) and with IFHE it will do 124mm of penetration (lol cit vs. many cruisers)

That's interesting lol. Reminds me of an Eddie Izzard routine:

"Cake or death?" That's a pretty easy question. Anyone could answer that.

"Cake or death?"

"Eh, cake please."

"Very well! Give him cake!"

"Oh, thanks very much. It's very nice."

"You! Cake or death?"

“Uh, cake for me, too, please."

"Very well! Give him cake, too! We're gonna run out of cake at this rate. You! Cake or death?"

"Uh, death, please. No, cake! Cake! Cake, sorry. Sorry..."

"You said death first, uh-uh, death first!"

"Well, I meant cake!"

So I'll skip IFHE on RN battleships thanks.

Certainly interesting time citadeling Fiji with IFHE buffed 356mm HE from KGV.  With her 25 second reload, it gets even more interesting.

I am absolutely in love with IFHE on British battleships. I use it on the Nelson with absolutely amazing results. It makes it possible 1 shot cruisers a large portion of cruisers with HE rounds.

This bottom part goes right to the Nelson, however you can use your head on how this might effect any British BB in question.

This is from LittleWhiteMouse's Nelson review, which can be found at this link. https://forum.worldofwarships.com/topic/133955-premium-ship-review-hms-nelson/

Now let's talk about Inertial Fuse for HE Shells.  HMS Nelson is fully capable of damaging any ship within her matchmaking spread with HE without any need for taking this skill.  This includes battleships and the armoured deck of carriers like Taiho.  Her penetration is so high, she can citadel almost half of the cruisers in her matchmaking spread.  Doing so provides a big boost to Nelson's damage totals, but this is a harder shot to land than with AP shells.

Here's the list of cruisers HMS Nelson can citadel stock with HE:
  • France:  De Grasse, Charles Martel, St.Louis
  • United Kingdom:  Emerald, Leander
  • Soviet Union:  Kirov, Murmansk, Krasny Krym, Molotov, Shchors, Chapayev, Mikhail Kutuzov
  • United States:  Omaha, Marblehead, Pensacola, Atlanta, Flint, Indianapolis
  • Japan:  Furutaka, Aoba, Mogami, Ibuki
  • Others:  Perth.
Taking Inertial Fuse for HE Shells only opens up small sections of battleships to penetration damage and none of them large enough to be worth it (with the exception of HMS Hood and Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya which each have large sections of their upper hull that becomes vulnerable).  It does nothing to help you with aircraft carriers or destroyers.  Where it does come into use is against cruisers.

Taking the skill adds the following ships that HMS Nelson can now citadel:
  • France:  La Galissonniere, Algerie,
  • United Kingdom:  Fiji, Belfast, Edinburgh, Neptune
  • Soviet Union:  Budyonny
  • United States:  Cleveland, New Orleans
  • Japan:  Myoko, ARP Myoko, ARP Ashigara, ARP Haguro, ARP Nachi, Eastern Dragon, Atago, ARP Takao
