This isn't anything new. I took this screenshot before the patch even hit, and I think i've had maybe one or two matches in the last week that didn't have at least 5 battleships.

 

Then again, this is the cancerous meta that players have been crying for since CBT, so it's the meta Wargaming has given us.

Yes, but those pesky torpedo boats just won't leave them alone! So of course you need a destroyer to go after them, but then since the other guys will have destroyers of their own, you need cruisers to go after them...

Last year, just before the release of the German BBs I believe, WG mentioned they were aware of the high BB numbers. The German BBs were followed by the changing of the IJN DD line where they gave us the double torp launch (forget the more recent change to that option please, it was well OP! ).

 

Then OWSF was removed - which resulted in the great bloom mechanics we have now and BBs sit at the top for damage and survival at most tiers V-X (remember game not sim).

 

As a DD at tier VII there's a mere 11 ships you could face with radar and around 41 with hydro - not designed to kill DDs and spot torps but scare the BB players (letting them know what they face) and make them run to the other classes!

 

And RPF! Yes it may well have been a mechanic designed to stop DDs creeping into the back lines of the enemy and torping those nasty BBs, but not many use it so we can dismiss that skill.

 

The RN BBs are here so of course many are playing them, but this type of thing won't happen again; I doubt the Russian BB line will have as many takers (they're bound to be weak! ).

I do wonder though, what was it like? I know in a cruiser only game, everything is scary because there aren't any tanks and cits for days. But what is a BB only game like?
