A while back I posted this topic, showing off my latest 'toy', a Chinese brand 1/16 sale R/C StuG. I've since painted and weathered it.

Changes I've made:

  • Scratchbuilt a stowage rack on the back
  • Relocated the spare road wheel mounts
  • Moved the fire extinguisher and jack block to accomodate the relocation of the spare road wheels
  • Added a ton of stowage

I used a very quick-and-dirty method of weathering:

  • Did basic paint job / camouflage
  • Drybrushed gunmetal on the edges that would see wear and tear
  • Very lightly drybrushed rust color over same, heavier on the fenders, lighter on the casemate
  • Applied black wash, lightly on top, more heavily the lower on the vehicle because more dirty
  • Applied sepia wash over the black wash, lightly on top, more heavily the lower on the vehicle because more dirty

Oh, I've only now noticed that I forgot to weather / apply wash to the spare roadwheels. Well, this shows the contrast between unweathered and weathered. Off to apply a drybrush and wash to the spare roadwheels ...

  • Cool 4

Looks great.

I'm curious how long it took to modify.

I think all in all I spent about 10 ~ 12 hours on this. It's difficult to tally, since it was 20 minutes here, an hour there, over the period of several months.

But, between scratchbuilding the stowage rack, collecting and painting all the stowage, modifying the commander figure, spraypainting the basic panzergrau, adding the dunkelgelb camouflage stripes, doing the drybrushing and washes, 10 ~ 12 hours is a reasonable estimate.

Wow, you do some pretty impressive work.  Very very nice job!  :cap_like:

Weathering was one of those things that I never got very good at when I did modeling work.  When I get back into it, that is one of the areas where I really want to improve.

Quit acting silly cousin Willy.

So any of those R/C models ones that shoot airsoft pellets?

Yes. Which is an entirely forgettable gimmick after the first three times, and I much rather have ones with barrel recoil and muzzle flash simulation, but they're more expensive.
