Greetings all,

So we're finally getting a premium German DD! This is fantastic news! (The announcement of any new ship(s) coming to the game is always fantastic news... but I digress)

Just in case you haven't made up your minds yet, how about.....

The Type-1934A class destroyer Z9 Wolfgang Zenker

Reasons, why she would make a good premium ship, include....

1: We do not yet have a Type 1934A class destroyer in-game. Leberecht Maass is only a Type 1934. The 34As were slightly larger, had a square bridge instead of a rounded one, and featured improved machinery over the standard 34s.

2: She'd be easy to balance with the same main battery and torpedo battery as the Maass. Zenker is slightly larger so she'd have more hitpoints and her improved machinery could be represented by superior acceleration. In trade, she sacrifices AA firepower and detectability.

3: Zenker, under the command of the famous Admiral Lutjens, engaged the Large Polish Minelayer Gryf and the Polish Destroyer Wicher in the first ever naval battle of the Second World War on September/3/1939.

4: Zenker laid 2 minefields off of the British coast in January-February/1940 which claimed 6 ships for a total of 23,010t.

5: Zenker landed troops during the Invasion of Norway and was one of only 2 destroyers that survived the first Destroyer Battle of Narvik unmolested.

6: Zenker met her end when she went out to do battle with the British Battleship HMS Warspite on April/14/1940. After firing every last shell and torpedo she had, and doing only minor damage to Warspite, she beached herself in Rombaksfjorden and her crew scuttled her with explosive charges. Her crew would go on to support the army in the Invasion of Norway.

As you can see, for a destroyer who only survived for 20 months (only 7 of those being during the war), she did more for the German war effort and saw more action than a good many of the other Large German Destroyers did over their respective careers.

Anyways, just a friendly suggestion. :)

@dseehaferWhat's the DD that's apparently coming & source?

We don't know which destroyer is coming... just that it's German. Also, the source is the same video that they announced they are working on Roma, no missiles, etc....

I like that choice myself, I would pay up to $24.99 for a premium German DD like that :)

I doubt a tier 7 premium destroyer would be that cheap. :/

*Looks at Sims*

Mentioned ship sounds like a good idea for a German premium destroyer.

I do suspect what we maybe getting is ZH1.

The Type 1934A destroyer line is also notable for a number of destroyers that served not just throughout the length of the war, but also survived and served post war in other forces.  They include the Paul Jacobi, Theodor Riedel, Hans Lody, Friedrich Ihn and Erich Steinbrinck.

My personal vote is for the Theodor Riedel, which next to the Nurnberg is the second longest surviving Kriegsmarine large ship.  That, and she has a good looking camo for WG to work with.

I'll see if there's anything of note.

edit: Doesn't look like either of them are being tested yet.

I was proud of myself for recognizing that this was related to the Maass from the image. I'd buy it if the price was right.

Would personally hope for Z-32, Tier 8 KM DD.

That way its another step in finishing the trio of Blyskawica / Z-32 and Haida.

That fight also included the ZH1, more reason to include it.

I'd be up for it's inclusion, but probably wouldn't buy it. I didn't like Maass, and I detest Z-23.

I do note that in your 2 'postcard pictures with 'Wolfgang Zenker' written on she has 2 pennant numbers, 61 and 63.

Unless she was re-numbered, which is possible but seems a bit odd in just 20 months of service, one of those images might not be the same ship.

The names the Kriegsmarine ended up using for these smaller ships (the ones they did bother to name) are interesting. Without a long naval tradition to draw on, and with all of the "important" names reserved for bigger ships (or off-limits due to their associations with the Imperial regime), they ended up naming a lot of DD's after guys who didn't do much more than die. Of course, I can see why using the name of an officer who was killed by communist mutineers would be useful for propaganda purposes.

OK, tangent observation over.

Yeah LM wasn't a bad ship, but it wasn't a great ship.  Just in the middle really.  Strangely this ship's description sounds a lot like Prince Eugen, in which case I wouldn't mind another ship with extra bonus to credit earning potential.

In the stats on the bottom you can see that her pennant number was changed 3 times in total.

Ah, so there is!

I don't understand why a renumbering every 6 months was needed though.
