Against all advice, bought the Prinz Eugen

Everyone hates on this cruiser so much.  I just don't get it.  It's pretty tough (for a cruiser) and will do well for you if you follow the Cruiser Code (always make sure there is somebody close by who is a more tempting target than you are.)  I've had some great games, and a ton of fun.

Is it blatantly OP, or super powerful?  No.  But its good.  I think this is a highly underrated ship.

LOL so much bitterness.  I like my extra hit points.  Plus Hipper is not free.  The money I paid for Prinz Eugen is worth less to me than the time it would have taken to grind to Hipper.

It's good when top tier, it's really bad in a T10 game. Unfortunately, it mostly sees T10.

I bought it when she was new, I'm one of those nutjob collectors in the game.  The only thing that differentiates Prinz from Hipper is the fact she's a Premium Ship and her camo bonus.  Everything else is essentially the same as Hipper.

It's a good captain trainer, most people hate on her because she is near identical to the tech tree ship.  I've played a couple of games in her (got her in the Santa promotion) and she wasn't a bad ship.  Nothing stands out and people who buy ships tend to want something to jump out at them to make the purchase worth it.

She's a ship I really like the look of, but I just can't bring myself to justify the price.

I'd never complain if I won one in a crate or something, but I really dunno if I'd ever see myself buying her. I collect enough ships as it is.

It'd be kinda fun to run one with a Bismarck against the upcoming RN BB rush though.

The stats to her camo do indeed make Prinz a good captain trainer.  On paper.  The truth is she is a Tier VIII Cruiser that really loses out in a high tier match, and even worse, another Tier VIII Cruiser that doesn't have hull repair.  Only Edinburgh and Premium Atago do.  Tirpitz, Scharnhorst are completely superior German Captain trainers because of the fact they are Battleships.  They stay alive to smash faces.  A Tier VIII Cruiser is just concerned about not getting deleted in one salvo.

 

Tier VIII Cruisers are IMO, in a bad spot.

Here is my thinking about what you said on the price...as disgusting as it is to even mention the word, Christmas is not all that far away (IKR, makes ya sick to think about it), anyways, WG has not come up with a batch of new and wonderful premium ships so if they have the Santa gift boxes again....try to get one that way, that's how I got mine ($3. box), most likely if they do it again every premium will be available through the gift boxes again, its a relative cheap way to fill up your port with those collectables.

I kinda wish I had one, though with no Hipper experience, I can't say I know what i'm missing out on. Gratz for making the leap though.

Pretty much where I'm at with it.

I was also thinking that I'm fairly sure Eugen is on the list for normal ships in supercontainers, thought obviously the odds there are astronomical.

She's even nicer to play in coop since WG reduced the AI threat level of the ship to below that of a DD.  The first few matches I ever played in her the AI would shoot at the nearest DD until the Prince was spotted.  At that point the AI immediately focus fired on the Prince.

Brought her when she first came out, have 125 random games in it, sub 50% win percentage - when I grinded the Hipper have 62 games 61% win percentage, go figure... Love the look of the ship and have almost four 19- point German captains due in part to the PE... but just a Meh performer.  A little better after the he buff to German cruisers, but still nothing special, really does not uptier well, no special abilities that can be applied in a game.  Do not play much, have most of the tier 10 cruisers and Atago and MK, which are more competitive tier 8s anyway.   Always seem to find that the PE was targeted more then when I ran the Hipper, and when you are targeted, you die more quickly and more often in a cruiser.  And again, seems like any time I get a desire to take it out, I get up tiered.

I am a collector and of course I have a Prinz Eugen, and I like it.

It is not my best ship, and it struggles when uptiered but for the tier is is pretty good, armor is decent for a cruiser, guns are excellent and AA is very capable.

All-in-all a very decent German trainer.

Can't blame the ship for undesirable match-making.  Different problem.  Pretty much hate on every tier 5, tier 6, and tier 8 if that is the reason why you don't like her.  I personally can't stand the Tirpitz gunnery - I need accurate guns to enjoy a ship.

The MM is a fact of life and inescapable, and something all the Tier VIII Cruisers share.  Unless you're talking something very gimmicky like Kutuzov in her smoke, Tier VIII Cruisers scale poorly in MM.  Meanwhile, Tier VIII Cruisers get absolutely smeared in high tier matches.  Tier VIII BBs, DDs do alright when stuffed into Tier IX-X matches.  The Cruisers and CVs don't.

i never said that people shouldn't buy her. There is just nothing unique about her. She is a solid cruiser suffering from the same like any other T8 cruiser besides the Atago: no heals. I got mine from a 3$ container and didn't regret it. Main reason why I thought about her are historical reasons. But then (from my point of view) she isn't worth the money for a techtree clone.
