WG is telling me that task 1 needs to be completed with a cruiser but I do not find the requirement listed in the task details.  Has anyone else had this issue?

Thank you, I had not noticed that.  It's frustrating (having completed the mission in a BB and not having a T9 or T10 CA/CL) that they didn't more clearly specify this like they do with other missions (e.g. task 7) and that not every task requires a CA/CL.

Wait till the next set of missions, they need a high tier carrier to complete most of them.

You can repeat missions for extra stars. That's what I do. Do the ones you can and repeat them.

You only get the rewards once though.

As HazardDrake mentioned, you can redo completed missions for the stars.  You just don't get the reward again but if you are lacking a certain ship type or just don't like playing it, pick one of the missions that fits your playstyle and just repeat it as needed.

Completing tasks more than once is how I got through both the Science of Victory and the Honorable Service as there are still tasks I have not (and will never complete).  I was just annoyed because I am also playing through the Iowa and thought I would be able to complete that task and get the rewards...so now I am just grinding through the other CA tasks (slow but sure with Mogami and her 155mm guns...the damage and citadel tasks will be easier with 203mm).

Thankfully, WG has provided a means to complete the missions w/o the need for a high tier CV - you just have to punt on getting the Completed All Tasks medal and the task achievements involving the CVs since you'll be duplicating the non-CV tasks for no additional task rewards.

As you look at the tasks for parts 3,4,5 of the campaigns, even though most tasks are suitable for BB/CL/CA/DD players, many of the 2/3 star tasks are non-deterministic tasks w/ a high skill threshold.  Deterministic tasks are those that are fairly predictable in how many games you'd have to play to achieve them by taking the threshold and dividing by your own stats to get a approx. number of games (e.g, Total XP, damage).   Non-deterministic tasks are those that require the right game/ship/ circumstances to achieve and are not as predictable and rely on the right combination of elements not in your control (e.g get Clear Sky, Dreadnaught, kill so many of a certain ship type).

If you want to be more or less certain to complete the Campaign in a predictable time window, you may be using the same strategy as w/ the CV heavy campaign mission (i.e. Selecting deterministic tasks & repeating them) - at least to initially complete the Campaign & start your collection phase - and come back to the other tasks later.

At any rate - the Yamamoto Campaign is pretty challenging - but balances doability for its core completion w/ a longer timeframe ability to pick up the more difficult task rewards on your own time as a byproduct of you just playing normally later - it was pretty well thought out by WG.
