Well I've finished all lines that I wanted (CVs are a definite pass & US CA's from 7-9 are a turn off) and now have the choice to finish either the German or US BB line.

Question for you BB mains, out of the US & German lines which have you had more fun playing? And are there any ships in the particular ships that stand out?

Premium Soviet DDs. All the gunning and running + usable torpedoes.

EDIT: wow totally misread the question.

I would work on the German line until T8, I think Bismarck is the peak of the line, and find FDG and GK inferior to the other lines.

Then do USN to 10. It is a trudge through 7 teirs but NC Iowa and Montana are great.

I didn't care for the USN BBs t3-7. Slow bathtubs are not my jam. Not to call them bad or anything, in fact I did fairly well in them.. just didn't have much fun. But the NC is a different type of battleship, and its pretty fun. Fast enough to position itself well and the guns feel pretty darn punchy. I haven't made it to the Iowa yet, but based on my experience with the MO she also seems fun.

The KMS BBs are great from start to finish. The low tier ones have trolly armor and getting in close is fun. The Gniesanau at t7 is a absolute blast, fast and maneuverable. Good armor and good AA, the first of the KMS BBs to also have secondaries worth spec'ing. And the icing on the cake.. torpedos... so much fun on a BB.  The Bismark a slight departure from the Gnies, but it's not a bad thing. A BB for a aggressive frontline player and she has all the tools to excel at it.  Both Gnies and Bis are keepers in my book (unless you have their premiums sisters).  The t9 and 10 are a bit disappointing, not calling them out as bad but they loose the maneuverability of the lower tiers and just become such big juicy targets.  The T9 was the worst of the two IMO, the t10 redeemed itself some by having 12 guns. I blame a lot of the reason for me not loving the Kurfurst like the Bismark is not because the ship is bad, but because the t10 meta doesn't mesh very well with the Kurfursts preferred playstyle.

So in summary... I recommend you pick KMS BBs out of the two.

Edit: Oh, and PS.. I'm not a BB main.. more of a Jack of all Classes.

German BB's are good, the GK (T10) specced for secondaries is a blast. NC is good but the Iowa and Montana just seem meh. I stopped at the NC

It depends the tier as to watch Battleship line I have the most fun in. For anything up to and including tier 7 I enjoy playing the German battleship line. After tier 7 it's US battleships for me. You can't beat their speed and concealment. I know a lot of people of going to disagree with me, but I prefer my Montana over the Grosser Kurfurst any day. With the change to the citadel on US battleships they've become more usable. Also, I don't have to worry about CV's. My detection is amazing, love popping up in my Iowa or Montana and surprising cruisers. With the German line I've found that no matter the angle people know where to shoot now for massive amounts of white damage. With the US line I can angle and bounce shells. What annoys me most about the GK is the fact that a cruiser can just look at the thing with HE and set it on fire.

US BBs have more accurate guns and are pretty nimble after Tier VII. German BBs are harder to citadel and tend to have better secondaries. German ships have lousy main battery dispersion however, and that's a huge turn-off for me personally.

Germans up to T8, FdG is so terrible that I'd say even Iowa is more enjoyable - you get guns that work and FdG's strengths of secondaries are well and truly spent by T9.

I'm not at all a BB main, but my favorites of the German lines were the Konig, Bismarck, and Kurfuerst.  But the entire line is great.  USN BBs I don't really care for.  I like the New Mexico and the Missouri, so I'd probably like the Iowa if I had it, but I stopped playing when I got the NC.

Call it American Bias but I love my American BBs! And....I can't wait for WG to eventually add an alternate line for them with puget sound upgrades and maybe have a BB line with an AA ability for a consumable!:fish_book:

The US BBs are good excluding the Colorado, her speed is simply unacceptable for her tier gameplay, had fun with NC then when I got the Iowa I adapted the bow fighting style. enjoyed both ships, got the Montana she's good... till for some reason I wanted to change the aggressive specs(upgrades and commander skills) to specc the Montana for stealth which didn't suit my play style... /x_\\

The German BBs are good from someone that played only the Bismarck and the FDG, they are very reliant on their team for support if you gonna push up flanks, I spec both of them for secondaries for maximum fun factor, and you can watch as secondaries abnormally showers hostile targets that are even 11.5km away as the stick fires on them and melt their HP like evaporation.  it's mobility in comparison to the Iowa's for their respective play styles is rather bad.

Ex US Navy here and it pains me to say this, but the US BB line to me was simply boring.  Fun to shoot at, but not much fun to play.  They seem to have gotten better lately with the cit lowering, but still fairly one dimensional ship unless you happen to play with a CV that is stupid enough to fly over you..and plane kills mean anything to you.  After running around in DD's and Cruisers for a bit, I started up the US line and also bought the Texas when it first came out.  Tex was a blast to play because she could just bang heads with anything and simply ATE planes.  But that was ago old past and she rusts in port now.

Between the two you mentioned, KM line hands down.  You get a lot of variety coming up through the line with some slow plodding ships that are not a lot unlike their US counterparts, then you hit Genny at T7 and she is a whole different beast.  Fast, 8k torps, decent guns, if not a bit light for her tier, but really basically about the closest thing to a sniper the KM line has and the added bonus of torps for anything that gets too close.  From Genny you jump into the Bismark and then your whole world changes.  This is the start of the KM line dynamic play.  Tanky, punishing guns, and secondaries that just hum and can really reach out and touch someone.  About here you will start to actually not mind DD's that wander in a little close thinking they can snipe a fast torp shot on you.  Bis, FD, and GK all play roughly the same with their own little quirks, but when you hit GK with a full secondary build.  She can be a monster.  I was to try to talk up the US line I would have to say,  good guns.  You can deal some hurt.  And they have some pretty monster AA.  Not really much to add for the US line.  North Carolina might be the only ship in that line that interests me, but not enough to waste time to get her.

You didn't mention the IJN (Japanese) line.  That is a pretty fun one to run and almost 180 degress out from the KM line.  Fast, laser guns with stupid long range.  Perfect run and gun sniper BB.   And when you really get the feel for them you can do a bit of brawling as well.  They can hold their own and their seconds aren't KM worthy, but nothing to turn your nose up to.  Puny armor is about the only downfall.

Ran IJN to Yam

Ran KM to GK, which is my go to ship ever since I have had her

Ran US to..  I don't know.  Maybe T6, but probably not even past T5 in the tech tree since I had Texas already.   I know I won't waste another game in one of them though.

I will run the Brit line when it comes out, unless they are turds like the US ships.

I have the IJN to Yammy, Kongo was a blast but further up I got bored with the sit and wait play style. Which in turn made it a bit of a grind. Haven't played them in a long time but will finish off 100 games in the Yammy as part of my monthly goal.

Turns out I have a Bayern which I've never used, I think I might have won it in a contest or campaign. I also got the Bis that way and played a few games in her.  I might grind the Bayern up to see what the Gniesenau is like as a few people have highlighted it as a fun ship.

The US I might save till last as I will have to start at tier 3.  I've played too many games in a DD to have any illusion what it will be like in the Sth Carolina & Wyoming!

Ultimately both lines are varied and fun. The key decider for me is that the KM BBs are varied in an interesting and challenging way while the variety in the USN BB line simply stems from all the ships before tier 8 not being anything like what you want them to be, i.e. the North Carolina. Then again, it's a subtle enough distinction and at face value both lines are equally alright.

T3. Both suck. Nobody cares because it's a short grind.

T4. Both are OK.

T5. New York is meh. Konig is absolutely awesome.

T6. New Mexico is OK. Bayern is OK-ish.

T7. Colorado is OK-ish and so is Gneisenau.

T8.North Carolina is godly. Bismark is good but can be challenging in the sniping meta.

T9. Iowa is good. FDG is OK.

T10. Montana is OK. GK is good.

Yeah I get what you are saying about Yammy.  I had fun getting there (except for Izumo which was a painful grind, but useful) and had quite a few games in Yam, but like you the real way to play her just didn't fit my style.  I ran the KM line and never looked back. Genny is an odd duck in that line though.  If you really like the play style of the Bis, Genny is completely opposite.  She is more like a Nagato with torps than a Bis.  It is kind of a mind bender when you run that line because the ships play styles all the way up are based on sort of the same premise.  Tanky ships with hard hitting guns (if you can hit something) and blazing seconds.    Then along comes Genny with her speed, light armor, laser guns (for KM ships), and torps.  lol.

Just wait and grind the Royal Navy line, the T10 makes the montana pointless and strays into the territory of the GK, there is literally no reason to play montana once it is released.

If you want the best in the US BB line, just save free exp for the Missouri and buy the Alabama, Texas and Arizona (save the pain of the grind and stock ships).   KM line was a pleasure to grind.  love the Bismarck and hydro, Gneis for torps, Bayern for its tanky essence.... and Tirp and Shinny Horse are great premiums...
