Boundary is being abused

I have seen this time and time again, people using the boundary to artificially adjust their speed to evade fire. I would like to purpose a simple solution.

If a ship is in the boundary its weapons are inactive. It would not "hurt" the ship that strayed into the boundary and encourage them to get out.

As it currently is ships with extremely high volumes of fire, or DDs,  just angle into the boundary slide down it and abuse the variation in speed that the boundary causes . "Border Bouncing"

Please provide some input if you agree, or disagree. I request you keep it rational and not call names it throw out random insults. That's what the in game chats are for LOL.

It used to be worse. I rarely ever see it happening anymore, and even then the amount of speed you loose leaves you a sitting duck.

I've learned to hit people who are boundary surfing without any real trouble. After you see it a few times it's easy enough to estimate their speed.

Alternatively, you can just go deal with the enemies around the objectives and leave the border camper essentially out of the game for all practical purposes. Of course, that only works if you don't think they will get to your carriers.

After 15-30 seconds, contacting the boundary should begin dealing damage to your ship. The longer that you stay on the boundary, the faster that the damage should accumulate.

Yeah it used to be really bad. I do not really see people doing anymore because they are sitting ducks.

Down to an HP of 1...   Don't let the wall kill the ship.

Make it an easy victim.

It's fine as is, just adjust your aim and learn to hit them.

Battlestations midway had it right hit the boundry marker and leave the game, a simple solution.

that would be a horrible solution in this game. there would be people who queue in just to leave, and people who would dart for the boundary line as soon as a game seems like a loss, or whatever reason they can come up with.

honestly though OP, i don't think border surfing is an issue anymore. anyone who tries is a sitting duck. and the majority of matches should be taking place a long way from the boundary line anyways. if you're chasing someone that's border riding, maybe the question should be "why are you that far out of the match in the first place?" i know. i've had to ask myself that quite a few times. it's an easy thing to fall victim to.

Not if it resulted in that ship being locked in port for 24 hours. For most part that will deter players.

This idea has been around since closed Beta. I may have proposed it myself a time or two.

The only time I get annoyed at edge surfers are when they are on my team.

They are not positioned to accomplish objectives. They give up half the area their weapons can cover. They are locked onto a predictable course so they are easy to hit. Just aim at the part on your side of the border.

It's a foolish tactic used by people who are afraid to leave their back exposed who think that they are half protected. Half witted is more like.

Nah the speed penalty right now is enough.

Agreed, a good opponent will wreck a ship hung up on the boundary.

With the speed penalty currently, any ship spending longer than 30s on the boundary is almost completely stationary. I would seriously hope you are able to hit a stationary ship.

If you can't hit a ship that's traveling along one dimension at quarter max speed, you really need to practice your gunnery. Edge riding isn't the issue here.

imagine if you were in your favorite ship, or trying to grind a line. you're in the heat of battle, a real nail biter out on the edge of A cap. suddenly you accidentally scrape the border. whoops. you can't play your ship anymore for 24 hours because you touched a line.

I don't really see it being a problem. Most of the time they are just a sitting duck.

I have though about turning the boundary into the edge of a minefield.

What better way to teach that lesson without any pain? Waiting 24 hours for something you crave is easy, just find something to do meanwhile.

Suppose adding something like "Get off the border. Countdown to this ship being locked for 24 hours: 20.0 seconds" would help, seeing as not everyone in playerbase reads patch notes nor watches Dasha's update videos.

Really? I find that speed penalty really bends me over if I hit it.

I don't see much abuse on that really.

As others have said, I personally haven't seen people running into borders that often anymore, so I don't think it's too much of an issue.

I usually see folks inadvertently hit is(as do I sometimes),but they generally move away soon.It used to be a serious problem, not so much now.

I dunno...how about if the border REPELLS you off like when you appraoch an island?   Kinda like a boxer who bounced off the ropes eh?   It seems fair as it keeps the player HP from being debted and also keeps the speed going as well.  Maybe its better to promote the player and redirect than to debit with HP loss and slow down. Now games have used that and I think its fair but since the bounce off of boundries is already programmed why not use it. I don't think WOW wants to make the boundry a island as it would not improve the esthetics and also make it really LOOK like a sand box.
