Weekend Potatoes

With the weekend winding down and with me finding myself getting more and more pissed at how people play this game; I began to question and research people I ran into. I found that a vast majority of blow out losses consisted of teams where 8 out of the 12 players maintained WRs at 50% or below and in specific ships were around 20 to 30%. It got me wondering and hoping that maybe someone can shed some light into the subject here; but how is it fun for a person to play a game that is based around team play and winning the objective, but yet they take zero initiative to get better and lose most of their games? I am at a complete loss here. Speaking from a purely personal perspective, if I was in their shoes and kept losing; I would either uninstall the game and find something else or learn to get better. These players I have seen over this weekend don't care to get better and keep playing. Some even have 8K games played and still sit around a 40% WR and average 18K damage a game.

Maybe someone here can help shed light into this aspect.

Playing with Potatoes is a fact of life here you take the good with the bad . I see  the errors right at the beginning with the movements of ships and i already know 90% of the time if it's going to be a win or a loss . Hell I'm a potato 12,300  Battles and a 48% win rate I've seen just too many tier 9 and 10 players that should just go back to tier 4 and 5's that's how poorly they played tonight  , But most of us play this game for enjoyment and the excitement of sinking the other human players doing the research training your captains buying premium time , flags , camo and ships  all because we enjoy playing this game and don't forget we need people and more of them so this game can grow and increase the population so the game stays around for a few more years...

The problem is you don't understand who plays the game.

Are you one of those players still in denial about the fact this is a casual game to 90% of the player base?

As much as I would like a more competitive environment, it's never going to happen now, this game never had a large hardcore base, and half of them have left....

Being one of the potatoes, it is nice to know how poorly we are looked upon by the great in this game.  Guess I need to take my ball and go home.  Also nice to know that we are not wanted.  Funny though, hard to see how this game will survive without us.

There's gotta be bad players for there to be good players.

Also, I think a small population of good to very good players make everyone else look particularly bad.

For example, average winrate might be fifty percent, but I think the median is somewhere in the forties because there are a large number of players slightly below the mean balancing out an ever smaller number of players going from fifty to seventy percent.

That's why I think even if on average you see more sub-fifty percenters than not, it's not that MM hates you, it's just how the game works... that's my speculation at least.

What I find funny is the fact that it is just that.....a game.  Not everyone has to play the way YOU want them to play.  I play it for the enjoyment out of it.  I'm very average at best and I try to do what I can in the game, but then people who want to insult other players and be all high and mighty like this game is their livelihood come around and it reminds me how ignorant a lot of people online are these days.  Should people strive to be better?  Of course they should as we all should.  However, does that mean being insulted and bullied if they're not up to your standards?  Heck no.  The true fact of the matter is that there are many people who play this with many age groups and backgrounds.  You may have people still in middle or elementary school on your team or you may even have a retired naval officer on your team.  Play the game and do your best.  Stop complaining all the time about those who lack the skill level YOU feel they should have....or better yet, reach out to them and try to help them.

I play to have fun, but I try to better myself each game I play. I am striving to be better, rather than be satisfied with my performance.

As a fellow potato I always have to laugh at the "better" players whose win rates would plummet if there weren't bad players to farm.

I actually had a great weekend, not one game of Warships played. Been binge watching Hell's Kitchen UK on Youtube... Not especially a fan, thought the girls were cute, but says more about my lagging interest in the game when a 10 year old cooking show holds more entertainment value.

so I think us potatoes should go on strike for 1 weekend and then what will the thread be after the weekend,

probably something like the queue was to long could not get games?

I know what you mean. How can a game be fun when you have 400 battles in the midway with a 20% win rate and an average of 2 planes shot down amd 15k damage.

And if its fun for you, what about your team mates in the other 80% of games? Its incredibly selfish of you to ruin that many games for that many people.

Weelends have akways been bad but every weekend just gets worse. Time for me to get a life and not play on weekends.

I do potato things every day, miraculously I manage to hold above 50% wr. Anyways, being bad at a game doesn't mean that you can't enjoy it a lot.. you need a reality check.

I would like to add a story from this W/E.

I know I shouldn't talk about 'stats'.  Stats are an evil that lies by telling 1/2 truths about players and their gameplay.

Spoiler

mX2los.png

This one guy in an Alabama camped the match away as a top tier sitting behind a rather large island.  Ignored all suggestions in chat etc etc.  I know all you forum readers have hear this story a million times before.

Most played non-prem ship.... Clem at tier 4 with 26 games.

I know WG has a business to run, but surely not hard to implement a purchase system of 'unlock a tier 8' to buy a tier 8 prem.

Because some people have fun just sailing a huge boat firing guns and watching things explode?

I'd love to be back at the 51% I was at with 1500 battles as opposed to just under 50 from the slide I've been in the last 2k battles. And yeah, some ships, I actually do decent in, though have some really unlucky games in as well, that I can't even buy a win for. I prefer improving and trying to better my stats to see how high I can get them, not to impress others or belittle others for theirs, not everyone is great at everything, there's always a loser, and hell, some people just get the wrong roll of the die a lot. Hell, some of the "potatoes" may well be as good or better than some of the non.

But that's me, I challenge myself to things, I like to try and improve, understanding that I will likely never be the best, only game I came close to that was Battlestar Galactica online (top 30 of strike fighter pilots in one of the starter ships, not the pay ones), and globally at a time top 100 snipers in the world of BF4 (cause I played shorter range and the objective). Others, they just jump on and wanna blow :etc_swear: up, and it's their right to do so.

Honestly, if were really going to get to the point that even 50% is being called a useless potato, because these threads are happening that often, I say we find ways to flood the servers on weekdays so the elitist jerks who want those they deem potato's gone must suffer more or maybe, instead of complaining do this weird thing called "Trying to help" if they see what they did wrong in a calm tone and not berating them or insulting them. Because hey, not everyone has endless hours to play, and not everyone can watch or read the guides and learn from that how to play something exactly, some have to learn hands on. Then again - I'm a vindictive Snow, especially with this stuff given hey, someone else is getting them too for you to shoot at and they have helped build your precious stats.

so I came to the conclusion that I must be a potatoe

I think its funny that a free to play game still has people complaining about potatoes in their matches. Dude I understand the you hate playing with bad players like myself but you're just assuming that some people aren't getting better on purpose. I used to play WoWS on a daily basis, and now that I work the night shift, WoWS is only an option on the weekends. Do I hate seeing my entire team disappear in the first five minutes of a match? Of course I do. But there are multiple factors that can be affecting how these people play and it doesn't mean you should just say hey these guys are potatoes and I don't think they should play if they just play on weekends.

How many times do we have the read the garbage written by the OP? This is what creates elite crowds that go onto making their own forums and shut you down if you don't have good stats. [edited] attitudes create toxic communities.

As for your first question, because a lot of the people that play on weekends, or limited free time that they may have, are usually kids or people that play just for fun.  So taking that into consideration the game itself is fun, which is good because games should be fun.  As for your second statement ending in a question mark, what do you define as "initiative to get better"?  Not everyone strives to have, or even wants to have, a purple win rate.  That in itself is meaningless.  Do people like winning?  I would assume so...though less emphasis is put on that these days with younger folks where "just participating" is good enough and team sports below a certain age don't even keep score.

Having said that little bit in an attempt to maybe answer some of your questions, I will waste no further effort in that as this is, simply boiled down, just another Purple whine topic primarily based around the poorly veiled question, "Why do people play to have fun instead of playing the way I want them to?".

Why is there no threads from "63%pros" organizing training sessions for the "potatoes" to help teach them the way of the 63%'ers? Instead we get the "I was 1337 the day I started playing so my team sucks" all the time.
