I'm curious if there is still a stable player base for WoWp. I've played a good amount of air battles in War Thunder, but I'm kinda hesitant to get my feet wet. Anyone who has tried it: yay or nay?

You need to change your subject title to World of Warplanes.

WoWP has a rep as where fun, joy, and everything good in the world goes to die.

Why would you ask this question here?

And how hard is it for people to press search and actually look up answers? :Smile_sceptic:

No, its not.

Player base is so small they added bots (which make up most of the teams) to PVP matches.

That game really disappoints me. It was quite fun back in Alpha, Closed Beta, and even around the beginning of Open Beta.

After that it seemed like the design studio was on a mission from god to suck anything enjoyable out of the game.

They succeeded.

They are trying to reboot it it as World of Warplanes 2.0.

Some of the initial reboot gameplay footage looks pretty impressive, even if it isn't my cup of tea:

It's regarded as the worst of the wargaming war series. World of Tanks and World of Warships are more popular.

If you play play WOT, then yes. because you can earn Free-EXP from aniversery mission when planes you buy reach a certain time period. you can bag up to 8K Free EXP.depending on the allotted time and tier!:fish_book:

also WOWP isn't the best game, but it can be a bit of fun every blue moon. IF WG were to ever do an overhaul on the game and actually listen to the complaints and ideas of its pilots, it could rival WT in performance!

:fish_palm:But then again....its WG we're talking about here....

It's not as bad as people want to make it seem.

I play it every night.  Yes, there are problems with population, but during times that WG has events, there is a pretty good spike, and battles will be 80% humans.

And yes, there are bots that range from super unicum to super potato. And, you never know what you are going to get.

It's actually kinda fun, and yes, I fly with a joystick, it's way better than mouse and keyboard.

The economics work decent, IMO.. I am about a 1100 battles in, and have up to tier 7 planes.  I felt like I went too fast up the tiers in Ships, so I am happier to only play lower tiers in Planes.

One downside is the sealclubbing. If you try it out, expect to get abruptly shot down a lot in the lower tiers. You can buy premium time will tokens that you earn, and they are easily earned at low tiers. So, there are players with 1000s of battles in tier 1 and 2 planes just farming tokens.

Once you get to tier 3, it gets better.

Graphics are not as good as here in ships, but better than WT, which I have played also. Same goes for soundtrack.

I'm hoping WG will revamp the game at some point, but for now, it will do.

I am just getting in to DCS right now, and wow, that is a learning curve! I have to step back and fly WOWP just to clear my head and have fun.

Yep, real hard to fly with a mouse.

You can buy premium time

If you have premium in WoWS, don't you also have premium in WoWP and WoT.

Yes, but believe it or not, there are people who only fly WOWP..  And don't buy gold...

You can farm "tokens" in WOWP by completing missions, and use the tokens to buy either premium time or hangar slots.

Many of these missions are often are easier done in low tiers.  Hense the rampant sealclubbing..

I think I might pass on WoWPs. I like to fight for premium time for WoWs and WoT, but I think its not worth the time.

WoWP 2.0 is out now.  I had stopped playing 1.9 due to repetitiveness, really.  Every mission, same objective: only way to win was to shoot down all enemy planes.  Ground attack existed, but was no threat to the game outcome, just a useful way to grind credits with premium attack aircraft.

Now, there are multiple base layouts per map, multiple capture zones, which require destruction of ground targets to capture, bombers have started trickling in, making high-altitude fighters/interceptors a must-have to defend/attack... the meta seems to be coalescing around low level ground attack working with turn-n-burn fighters (UK/Japan), and bombers working with boom-n-zoom fighters (US/Germany).  All-in-all I say a massive improvement that makes it well worth another look.  It isn't the simulation I preferred back in the Air Warrior III days, but the demand for that style of game just is not there anymore. nor is my time.  A few mechanics have been removed until they can effectively re-implement them, such as the HUD attitude bars and manual flaps, but they are returning.

It feels like a promising game with a few flaws now, rather than the death spiral that it was.

Umm, no. It still has premium ammunition which makes doing any sort of damage "easy mode" to anyone with a couple dollars in a bank account.

WoWP 2.0 looks promising, but I cannot deal with more premium ammo. I already play WoT, and the reason I can tolerate WoT premium ammo is that almost half of my games is in my Tiger 1. The Tiger 1 has no reliable armor, only the mobility and gun is. Premium or non-prem shells penetrate with ease, so it makes no difference. But really, I dont want to deal with more prem ammo.
