How the heck did I get team killer?

Hi folks, been playing WOW on and off for around 5 years now. I just finished a battle in a BB New Mexico where apparently I ran over a team mate in a DD. Never saw him as I was firing on a cruiser about 10 k away. Suddenly I hear " you just sunk an allied Destroyer" so I popped out of targeting and saw him sinking in my wake! Now I've attained Team Killer! I was running in a straight line so how the heck do I end up with Team Killer status?

It sounds like he was low health so when you rammed into him, it caused him to sink.

I understand how he sunk, I just don't understand how that gives me Team Killer status. Frustrating when I don't feel at fault here.

Sounds like he was low health and the impact finished him off, crediting you with the TK.

It sounds like you were pretty tunnel-visioned, else you might have seen him coming and attempted to move. I suggest right-clicking your mouse and looking around quickly after every shot to maintain situational awareness. There's only so much you can do, though. You are always credited with TK status, as far as I know, if you deal the finishing damage.

Still, a DD can maneuver much more easily than a BB can. If he was that low of health, he should have known better than to ram, allow himself to be rammed, by a friendly ship.

As the others have posted is probably what happened . And as for what I quoted ; NO WAY as Alpha Test only started in 2014 !

Both of you are at fault. You both weren't looking where you were going and hit each other. Unfortunately the damage was enough to kill your team mate - hence you are a team killer.

You can also get Team Killer status (pink) by not killing a Team Mate, has happened to me when a BB went in close to the enemy for a cuddle (yes it was a Scharn). Unable to use torps I used guns instead and one round hit the Scharn causing a fire. After letting the fire tick for 7-8 damage cycles I was awarded a warning (pink status).

Totally my fault, like torpedoes, the rounds were mine.

considering guys was completely tunneled, he might've as well shot through other low-health guy and not even notice that... most mistakes in the match happens from lack of awareness (i know that's how with me)

Thanks for the comeback. I usually try to stay aware of what's going on, run aground to many times. Witha long reload I am looking around, I sure missed seeing him. Lumbering along at 23 knots with a rudder that takes forever to shift  when he's doubling that speed  there is only so much I can do.

Thanks for letting me vent! I take Team killing very seriously. Since team Killer status is computer generated I guess I'm stuck with it for 7 battles.

Ha! You know what, i'm exactly wrong. One of my buddies  was in the beta testing and told me about it. I played for about 6 months then stopped as it was getting a little expensive to try and keep up, So now I've been back for a few months with a different strategy, grind it out with little cash. Sorry for the error, guess it's more like on and off for 3 years.

Thanks! At 64 the years start melding together anyway!

Too bad there isn't a check box to alert you when close to a friendly like the alert when you are near a island. :cap_cool:

I could have shot through him but being in a BB , he's in a Destroyer I think the shots would go over him. I think I rammed him or he rammed me.

You would think so but in my experience there is either a taller hit box than the model would seem to have (mast tops?) or the shells do not originate at the muzzles of the guns. I have gotten the warning for shooting an ally ship smaller than mine when I am firing at long range when all logic seems to dictate I should be shooting well over top of him. This is partially realistic as your gun director is often at the top of the superstructure while your guns are at deck level.

Personally I wish there was an indicator that showed when some of your guns were blocked by an unseen ally, like there is for islands. The indicatator would only show when the ally does not appear in the gunsight so if he is hugging your target down range, that's all on you.

Based on the evidence at hand, you will receive the citation.  The court deems you must pay a fee of 150 dubloons and you can send that to the court at...well look me up :Smile_coin:

I can understand why someone might put the blame on the BB driver for this, I mean, situational awareness, tunnelvision etc, etc, etc... I get it.  But as far as I personally believe, the fault was totally on the DD captain.  If His health was so low that a simple bump from a friendly ship was enough to kill him then he should have steered well clear of any chance at a collision.  No so much to protect his team mate from the TK status but to live in order to keep fighting and help his team.

Wondered what those pink ships were, now I know. At 59 I know all too well how the years meld together. And I agree with the fault being on the DD captain. Those things are much more agile than a lumbering BB.

Many of us have done something sometime to earn the "Pink" ship.  Torps launched without thinking about friendlies, being zoomed in and firing killing someone right next to you, etc.

We all need to be more careful about launching torps, being aware of allies near by, and where allies are near the enemy.  Pink is not one of my favorite colors.  I am glad that the visual presentation of ships on the ocean do not change to pink!  No Operation Pettycoat pink ships please!

i'm 64 too. sometimes I forget where I put the lists and notes I leave for me, just to remind myself of what I was supposed to be doing, or not forgetting. typically this happens when it's something that I find unpleasant, or just don't want to do because naps.

WG could, and should provide special rules that apply just to us. while I understand there is no need, nor even interest in senior discounts in the gulag, those little red and green lights (even the white one on the stern) are far too small to even be considered for rules of right of way! also, the power of seniority and size should apply.... the older we are, and the slower we go (I was thinking mentally, but you BB mains would probably love this too), the more the rest of the players have to avoid us.

like all suggestions, I anticipate this will be thoroughly mocked, trolled and harshly treated. bring it on. you shall not upset me, it's nap time.

Being a DD on low health, perhaps he'd taken a hit that took out his steering and couldn't avoid.  I've had collisions in game where, if undamaged, I could have easily avoided.  But with steering knocked out, I couldn't turn.  Got some pink points for damage to team mate.  Nothing I could do at that point to avoid though.
