Suddenly, as of the patch today. WoWs hijacks my systems volume, lowering everything other than the game.

I can only think of two things.

1.Your speakers or sound card is giving out.

2. you have corrupt computer files

It's only with WoWs and only after today's patch.

open up Wows launcher. Click on settings, then click support. click on "check and repair game integrity"

see if that fix the problem. if that don't work, you might have to uninstall the game to reinstall it(this fix a lot of problems for a lot of players)

Did that, it did not.

I tested by opening my volume mixer on my second monitor and watching when i open WoWs. When I do that the game auto sets the volume of Chrome to 1.

It's not a thing with the game, pretty sure Windows has an option that automatically lowers the volume on every tab that isn't open when you're focusing on one playing audio. Maybe try playing with your audio settings?

Never happens with other games, only started happening with WoWs after today's update.

Windows had an update today too. Between the WOWS update and the Windows' one I can tell some things are definitely different with my system. For instance, alt-tabbing out of WOWS in full screen mode now takes several seconds, whereas before it was instantaneous. Also, my sound popup bar has disappeared.

To respond specifically to the OPs question though:

Well I'm not sure what started it but I found how to stop it anyway.

Go into your Control Panel "Sound" settings. Choose your main sound card or headphones. Click "Properties", then "Advanced". I unchecked "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device."

Once I did that it stopped..meaning something in WoWs was trying to take control of my system sound levels. (shrug)

Glad you solved it. I wonder if it was related to in-game voice chat and Windows' audio ducking feature (reduces volume of other applications when you are using voice chat -- WoWS has voice chat and may accidentally have thought you were talking).
