Wooden decks

Will the ships that utilized wooden decks be limited in choice to the historical woods such as mahogany and teak, or will we be able to get a bit exotic and explore some fantastic what if scenarios for the decks of these mighty warships? I just can't contain myself with the fantasy of the HMS Indefatigable having a totara deck becoming a reality (well, a video game reality anyway   )!

Also, will the decks having staining options, such as the Bue Flight Deck stains for US ships or will they just be left to their natural colors? Oh also, could there possibly be a function to have the decks age with the service time of your ship? Or even a beautiful ashen white holystoning appearance  :Smile_ohmy:

Oh I can't wait!

-Cheers

On a similar note, will deck upkeep be a repair cost upon leaving battle? Replacing warn boards was a time consuming endeavor and I assume will have a substantial cost if your deck is damaged/catches fire/etc...

Personally, I would prefer to holystone my decks after every engagement, although I might abstain if the practice requires gold. Though I still will before every clan battle if such an option exists.

Can't wait to set sail! :Smile_bajan2:

I see where you are coming from,  although I personally would also opt out of the holystone option if it cost gold,   it is sorta partial only to wooden deck ships.  What about steel decks?  They've already announced that there will be some level of customization but a wooden deck would simply be superior in terms of versatility to ccustomize.   Perhaps allow metal deck ships to rubberize or add wooden plating over top so they too can get in on this.  It's a little a-historical, but then again  allowing for different hardwoods is already pushing one boundary...why not two.

Any damage would cost money in the repair costs

If that's the case, wodden decked aircraft carriers should require a repair fee after every sortie whether they take enemy fire or not. Planks were constantly replaced on these as the takeoffs and landings stressed and splintered the planks.

Preferably, this cost would be incured until armored deck aircraft carriers, aside from possible research upgrades (Essex Class Aluminum Deck?). This would give the Royal Navy an early tier advantage upon their inclusion. :Smile_sad:

This is not a Sim, The Devs have said that all carrier landings will be successful, with no damage taken to the carrier.

As he said, it's not a sim. You guys are talking about repairing wooden decks... Now, different paints and all that, would most likely be easy to do.

Well, I have a fair amount of knowledge when it comes to painting in the Navy.  Paint is not easy, not at all.  Do you know how many shades of gray are needed just to paint a bilge up to deck-plate level?  Never mind the preparatory work...running the deck crawler, manning the needle guns, operating the pneumatic angle grinder with wire wheel brush attachment...  Then you have to clean the surface, a multi-step procedure if ever there was one, after which you can preserve the surface, then seal it, then and only then can you scrub it down, after which you may, if properly trained and under the appropriate supervision you may prime a part of the surface, utilizing the authorized technique only(failure to do so means starting over).  All that before you ever even touch a bucket of paint, which you will have to mix in the proper proportions of pigment and hardener, in a limited quantity(so as to avoid wasting product[waste, fraud, and abuse is a UCMJ thing]), which is then issued in even smaller quantities along with PPE and applicator(usually a brush) and you may then begin to apply the paint mixture in the authorized manner, including cutting in as well as laying on and laying off the paint.

Don't trust the barracks lawyers, paint isn't easy.  :)

Oh, wait, you meant custom paint schemes in game, never mind, carry on...

3rd class was a great rank...  According to those outranking you, you don't know anything and can't be trusted to do the job, but you are high enough to tell someone else to do it while you "supervise".  Nuke machinist/elt here.  :)

Thanks to WoWS, we can sail our precious warships into battle within minutes--not months!   :Smile_great:

Sigh my immersion is ruined.

I would expect camo or special paint jobs for gold as in WoTs. And all things considered I'm much more likely to spring for a paint job on a battleship than on my tank.
