Its just me or this ranked season is more boring than ever?

This ranked season is so boring, most of my battles are just smoke and islands, literally. Just had a battle were there was only one death and nothing more, the battle ended by points. There was no way to push because it was only smoke and islands. That is happening a lot. It seems like a ghost ranked, you know that the enemy is there, but you can do noting about it because you cant see him.

No, we never said smoke doesn't need counters, in fact, it already has quite a few. Let us count them: Hydro, torps, torpedo planes, Catapult fighters and DDs.(not counting Radar, as Tier VI doesn't get any)

 

The problem with Tier VI ranked this season is it features mostly BBs, which are not designed to counter smoke, so the lone DDs can often smoke up with near-impunity. The only real threat to them, unfortunately, is other DDs because the occasional Cruisers we get mostly get deleted and do practically nothing. Plus CVs have always been rare in Ranked.

Catapult fighters (and plane spotting in general) isn't a counter to smoke. And even if you have a CV, dropping into smoke is a diceroll that you can only make every few minutes. Particularly when ships can see the planes coming and turn in, but the CV can't even try to adjust.

 

Cruisers have very few, if any, of those tools anyways.

You pretty much nailed it... enemy goes to A we go B they drop smoke at A we drop smoke at B I putt around in circles in my Cleveland hiding behind Islands so the big bad BBs don't nail me while I take shots at there DDs or Cruisers then we push or they push and in a few minutes we do it all again,

we go A they go B they drop smoke we drop smoke and yada yada yada

Well hydro and catapult fighter/spoter their are good for spoting incoming torps or dds behind islands, but not for counter smoke. And torps resume my season so far, smoke, islands and torps passing.

Well, honestly, we need more Nurnbergs in Ranked. Excellent Hydro range and duration on those things, good enough for me to nickname KMS Hydro German Radar

Nurnberg is too paper to use hydro, you need to get too close to use it, even the german hydro. That ship is a floating citatel, it will die long before it get in range for hydro.

Atlanta's too paper for Radar, they say. Yet she's much better than Indianapolis at Radaring enemy DDs and only slightly behind Belfast(known to some as Payfast) in that regard.

 

How's that, you say? Simple. Radar and Hydro can see through islands, so park behind an island and Radar/hydro when you feel there is reasonable suspicion that an enemy DDs is near by or when you see an enemy smoke screen.

 

Just make sure your target is likely within your range. This will be important with Radar later on, as with Radar you don't have as much time.

Hydro has 5km of range, get within that range is just suicide, especially for a floating citatel like nurn. Atlanta has better concealment and radar has more range, you dont need to get into the enemy face to kill him.

 

At tier 7 there is 3 ships with radar and bbs that are fast and agile so they could just run straight to the enemy. At t6 i dont see a ship that is capable of breaking this meta like we had at t7.

I understand. But there is no Radar down here, no one wants to play CVs in ranked and, of course, everyone but a brave few are seemingly allergic to playing DDs in Ranked.

 

What else is there?

Ive been seeing lots of dds on my battles, lots of 3 dds per team. And it gets even worse with all the smoke. Just some boring smoke/island camping. Battles with CVs have less camping because CVs can spot and punish ship that are stoped, but so far there are few CVs in my games.

 

And that is why i dont like ranked t6. I really enjoyed ranked at t7 and t8, i hope it backs next season.

If you enjoyed Ranked at Tier VII, you probably own a Belfast.

 

It's rumored that Ranked will not be at Tier VII again for a very long time. WG abhorred the meta they created with Tier VII Ranked.

No, the only t7 premium i have is the Hood, but he wasnt in game at the time. I used a lot off Nagato and Gnei. 

 

People complain about the Belfast but he could break this boring smoke meta really well. 

 

Anyway WG seems to like this boring camping meta, WoT is like this and WosWs os going the same way.

I was thinking it was nice that it wasn't just battleships sitting at the edges of the map and shooting at each other over an empty ocean.

I would say that this has been the most engaging season for me with ranked.  I have been having a ball with the Fuso.  HE the first 3-5 salvoes to burn up damage control or if lucky, rack up a lot of early damage on the BBs...which can pay dividends later in the battle.

Seems like at Tier 6 DDs should be part of the problem and part of the solution to Smoke. They lay the smoke for the team but also have the torps to flush out a crowded enemy smoke cloud.

T7 main problem was that prem ship had a district advantage over line ships

All of their reasons aside for a moment, I felt it was boring too.  Because of the MAPS. Felt like I was in Groundhog Day.

I had 15 wins and 4 losses in Nurnberg...and the 4 losses I was top of scoreboard...very easy ship to run into ranked battle and get easy wins.

This is the way ranked, especially at the highest division, has always been played. Ideally you play proactively until you can get the point lead. Once the first step is done, you engage the camp fiesta and sing Kumbaya around a bonfire until you win on points. Or your team can have the better marksman and you eliminate the enemy team before that happens.
